    Not for long

anyone wanna gander how far down it'll go today?

i'm guessing it'll finish at -400 or so. I actually guessed yesterday that it would go up some today, it having gone down and down and down several times over the past few days... it "usually" comes back up. but i don't think this is "usually" anymore.

The dwarves of yore made mighty spells while hammers fell like ringing bells,
In places deep where dark things sleep in hollow halls beneath the fells.
For ancient king and elvish lord there many a gleaming golden hoard,
They shaped and wrought and light they caught to hide in gems on hilt of sword.

it's a bear market. don't forget the short-selling ban was in place, so the typical bear market rallies (aka people covering their short positions) haven't taken place in a while.

Bear markets without short positions makes for a very painful market.

well, if every central bank lowers rates by have a percentage point, it'll definitely go up, but only because of inflation.

Why the downfall of global economical systems must inevitably lead to the end of the world. It will probably cause some wars, genocide here and there but other than that people will be fine! I'm an optimist!

    Default Fall down, go boom!

The change in the Dow Jones Industrial Average was a relatively modest decline of 1.5%, a fall of 137 points, although it does bring that index closer to no longer being eligible for a tiresome internet meme (9,310 total value at closing).

The Dow Jones Industrial Average is an index of stocks, viz. an aggregation of the values of a select group of representative stocks that is often used to measure the status of the larger market. Most simply, it is the total share price of all the stocks measured by the average divided by the number of stocks. In practice the divisor is adjusted to account for splits and such, but that is the essential idea.
