    Default Building a computer

For my birthday my dad is going to help me build a computer ( and by help I mean pay for a lot of the stuff ) so I made my way over to newegg.com to browse around, but I really didn't know what I should get.

After reading in a thread I found this

So basically I am going with this, a specific power supply wasn't given, but I think I picked out a good one.
I also am confident that I picked out a good harddrive.

Here are links to all the parts.

So, does this sound like a pretty good gaming computer? And are there better deals that I could get? Also, What OS should I run on it, gaming-wise?

Unless you're overclocking i really don't see the need for anything other than the stock cpu heatsink/fan.

If you aren't paying for it who cares how low the price is. Anyway, I'd probably go with a nvidia card instead of an ATI. I'm very behind in the times but last i checked, ATI wasn't doing so well. If you want to save money then just re-use whatever case you have. If you still want a new case, get a Lian Li case. I love those cases so much.

You should get this. Asus P5ND, Q6600, Ati 4850, 4gigs, 600watt Psu, 64Bit Vista. That will make you fast

the intel Core 2 Duo E6850 @ 3.0ghz is pretty cheap and an awesome Chip. It's what I've had for almost a year now.

The GeForce 8800GTS 512mb is under $200 right now and is an awesome video card.

You might also want to get a CD/DVD drive. Also, i would get dual 9800 gtx+ and put them in sli since your motherboard is beastly.(Each one costs less than $200,it doesn't overheat unlike the radeons and performs the same as a radeon 4850.

    Links :
Power Supply Antecs one of the best

Nvidia 9800 GTX+ (169.99 After rebate with free shipping)

    CD/DVD Drive

well for what I have up there right now it is $1170.

I want it to cost around 900 or so dollars because If it's any higher my dad might not pay for all of it

I also have a good cd drive I have lying around

k i substituted that power supply, have a cd/dvd drive already, and 2 9800gtx's is too costly

My case is way too small for my plans. And i think ill just stick with the case i have now, but i might rethink the videocard, if somebody can tell me what the best ratio of performance to price
