I think it's because the entire network is still somewhat relying on antiquated cable or dsl, so that bottlecaps it. Not sure why. I know Bell here offers fiber optic internet, but it's the same speed. Makes no sense.

    Yummy.

Data travels as light through the fiber optic cable. That's how they provide such velocities : P

I'm really interested in advances in this type of technology but when I look it up on Google's page it's mainly a bunch of hype about how fast it performs and no details about how it works. If you haven't heard about it and care here's a link https://fiber.google.com/about/. Free to /discuss

How much does it cost? Is it very affordable(similar cost to normal internet provided by other companies) and widely adopted yet?

why would anyone object to this advancement.

this is not some epeen trophy. this technology will require and introduce a whole new infrastructure of the likes which will spawn markets and economies currently only dreamed of. comparing this new technology to how it relates the the computers average joes are using TODAY is like comparing apples to oranges.

power lines, railroads, highways, telephones, plumbing, and pretty much everything we call "critical infrastructure" today was, at its birth unnecessary. there was probably people back then saying it was overkill.

science and technology are the best economic drivers of all time.
