Default Israel instructing BBC, Financial Times and Sky

Bicom 'embarrassed' by misdirected emailBy Joseph Millis (totallyjewish.com)- Thursday 22nd September 2011

There were red faces at Bicom this week when an email from its director intended for donors was in fact sent to the organisation's media database.

The email, sent by Lorna Fitzsimons, the director of the organisation, "dedicated to creating a more supportive environment for Israel in Britain", stated:

"Throughout the weekend, Bicom staff were in contact with a whole host of BBC and Sky news desks and journalists, ensuring that the most objectively favourable line was taken, and offering talking heads, relevant to the stories unfolding."Top storiesMazeltov,

She added: "Bicom has one of BBC News' key anchors on a bespoke delegation. When planning her very first trip to the region, Sophie Long got in touch with Bicom to see if we could help her out with meeting in the region. Sophie is now spending three days of her trip with Bicom Israel, taking a tour around the Old City, meeting [Israeli government spokesman] Mark Regev...as well as visiting Ramallah and Sderot."

Most embarrassing, however, was the revelation that Fitzsimons - a former NUS president and Labour MP for Rochdale - had "briefed Jonathan Ford, the Financial Times leader writer for his upcoming leading article" in the paper. She noted Bicom had "regular contact with the Editor at Large of Prospect Magazine, David Goodhart, helping to inform him about the forthcoming UN vote on Palestinian statehood".

A Bicom spokesman told the Jewish News that this "administrative error" was "slightly embarrassing". He stressed that Fitzsimons had not been "asked to resign or had offered her resignation".

It is on many non zionist or antizionist outlets, but I chose a zionist one so you could not state it is made up...you are never happy ...and oddly enough it is not on any MSM...I mean, com'on, imagine if Iran was instructing BBC on what to say.......and here no western media outrage on a snestaional fact....which of the two to explain this silence, then:

    1) Israeli Lobby directly or indirectly rules western media and governments, limiting anyhting they can say?

    2) MSM finds it normal that Israeli lobby instructs the "free press".."nothing new here, nothing to highlight, move along"?

    You tell me

    HG,
    You prove 2 things.
#1 That zionist/west press report facts even if reflect negatively on them (specifically zionist)
#2 You are demagogy. Bicom=/= Israel. In fact it is not even Israeli lobby. Its look like homegrown non professional activist group. BICOM openly state goal and I dont see nothing illegal about this and no proof what so ever that they control media.
    Specially WHOLE western media.
I'm sorry HG but you are trying to hard to blow this clumsy marketing letter to cosmic proportions
BICOM, the Britain Israel Communications & Research Centre, is an independent British organisation dedicated to creating a more supportive environment for Israel in Britain. We do this by trying to create a more complete understanding of Israel and its situation. We believe in the right of the State of Israel to live in peace and security, just as we believe in the rights of the Palestinians to statehood. We support a close relationship between Britain and Israel, based on shared values and interests. BICOM pursues its objectives through a range of activities:

    • Providing daily, expert news summary and analysis of events in Israel and the region through our online publications.
    • Taking British journalists and opinion formers to Israel and the Palestinian territories to learn about the issues first-hand.
    • Bringing analysts, journalists and politicians from the region to Britain, to share their insights with their British counterparts.
    • Promoting a balanced discourse about Israel in the British media by creating opportunities for a wide range of voices to be heard.
    • Organising events and seminars in the UK aimed at deepening the discussion about Israel in Britain.
    • Engaging in dialogue with British opinion formers and the media on issues of importance to Israel and the Britain-Israel relationship.
