Default Ron Paul supporters plan a PaulFest in Tampa just before GOP convention

The Republican National Convention is not going to be the only political gathering in Tampa in late August.

Supporters of Texas congressman Ron Paul are planning a “Paul Festival” at the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa just before the Republican National Convention nominates Paul presidential campaign rival Mitt Romney.

The Tampa Bay Times described the event as “a three-day festival of music, entertainment and activism.”

With potential crowd estimates topping 20,000, PaulFest could end up bigger than RomneyFest.

A group of Paul backers called “Liberty Unleashed” is negotiating with state fairgrounds officials to lock in an event to take place from August 24 to 26. The Republican convention is scheduled to open the next morning at an arena about ten miles away....

If I was in the US (even in Washington state), I would attend this Fest..gogogogo Ron Paul

    GOP trying to block it:

Republican Party blocking massive Ron Paul event in Tampa?

    ..............

This time, Paul’s supporters are attempting to secure the Florida State Fairgrounds, where they expect an estimated 40,000 people per day to attend. The Republican Party is trying to block them.

The RNC has first dibs on virtually every venue in Tampa during the week of the convention. In order to secure the fairgrounds, Liberty Unleashed, the nonprofit group incorporated in Florida by Paul supporters, can only sign a contract for the fairgrounds with the agreement of the RNC Committee on Arrangements (COA).

It was reported locally in Tampa on May 23rd that both Paul Festival organizer Deborah Robinet and fairgrounds director of sales and marketing Terry Parnell expected to sign a contract that week. However, Robinet told supporters in an e-mail last night that the RNC “had blocked our attempt.”

Just days after Sen. Rand Paul’s endorsement of Mitt Romney, the Republican National Committee has agreed to allow supporters of Rep. Ron Paul to host a three-day festival right before the GOP convention in Tampa, Florida, Business Insider reports.

The move comes one month after the RNC had cancelled the event. Some speculated that this was due to worries about the influence Paul loyalists would have on the convention, but protests and email campaigns by the Texas Congressman’s supporters (and perhaps a Rand Paul endorsement of Romney) paid off.

Paul festival organizer Bryan Siemon told Business Insider he expects between at least 30,000 and 40,000 attendees. So far, Ron Paul has not committed to attending the festival, and organizers are working on getting others in the liberty movement to speak at the event.

“I think Tampa is going to be Paul Festival,” Siemon said. “But ‘Paul Festival’ is really just an honorary title — it’s a Liberty Rally.”

Maybe after Rand's odd move, the GOP masters think that RP supporters are sort of tamed and or, lost the hardcore ones?
