I did, gave it a shot and realized, there's nothing to do. However, that was months ago.. maybe they added stuff to do. Dunno, don't really care.

I purchased Miner Wars as part of some indie package a while back, though I haven't yet downloaded the game to try it. The concept is interesting and the gameplay features are enticing. Who wouldn't want to blast tunnels into enormous asteroids in a persistent sandbox solar system, with full environmental destruction and battles of up to 300 ships involved? Once Miner Wars has advanced further in development, I'll undoubtedly give it a whirl, but the current build is limited: http://www.minerwars.com/CurrentBuildFeatures.aspx

Please stop purchasing unfinished games to get into the alpha or beta.
If those companies were to stupid to work out a financial plan for a finished product, or are incapable of getting additional funds via a bank, then they deserve to go down.

All you achieve when you buy pre-alpha or beta games, is decreasing the quality of games overall, because companies releasing unfinished products, and then drop those to continue on their next unfinished product instead of polishing it out (which is the hardest part of creating a game) will prevail.

You also are responsible for causing others to jump the wagon, because everyone wants to check out a new MMO first, before the launch for various reason. Most obvious reason would be to get a head start once the finished product is out. And this is what those companies releasing unfinished products
    know about, and abuse it.

Payed beta should ring all your alarm bells. Payed alpha, you should shoot yourself.

With that argument Minecraft wouldn't exist, nor would Project Zomboid either.
I think everything depends on the price and how the game performs.
    Fuck you.

Minecraft's development always sucked ass and now that he's made his money, Notch's working on a new game already...
He also lets players mod the game in his stead.

First of all, Miner Wars came as part of a bundle with price determined by the customer. That is how I obtained it.

Developers can't always pitch an idea and succeed in selling it to investors who hope for a profit, given the nature of indie titles and the relative lack of mainstream interest, both of which limit the potential returns. They can sell it to investors who hope for a decent game. Before supporting a developer, I look for substantial progress already made, an ongoing relationship with fans, regular updates, and a certain attitude towards themselves, the community, and the game itself.

I'm not sure how you can fault individual gamers for supporting a game's development when enormous publishing companies back an AAA title with millions in funding, yet it still turns out to be an unfinished turd, while some of those pay-for-beta alternatives are already a load of fun and provide considerable entertainment value.

I have no problem throwing down a few meager dollars for the significant possibility of a game with desirable features often poorly implemented or entirely absent in the market, and if I am aware of others who also seek a game with those features, why wouldn't I share the details with them? Boohoo, the game's unfinished, so fucking what. By committing financially and spreading the word, we are sending a signal that there is sufficient demand to justify the cost and effort of development, which serves the additional purpose of inspiring devs with similar ideas to bring them into being.
