Default How has the game evolved since release?

Hey everyone. Been a while since I've been around these parts.

Now, I'm not a newbie, I was part of the Day 1 launch and played for a few weeks with the guys from, Redemption, I think it was.

Now, (no offense to Adventurine), the game wasn't all that great back at the initial release, but I've been hearing a lot about how it's better than it was now, but I've not heard a lot about exactly how or why.

So, can some current players tell me exactly how Darkfall's evolved since initial?

you get better skills faster and magic has been toned down. Unfortunately, IMO a lot of the "extra content" like the trade routes, sea fortresses, and villages dont really add that much content.

What do you mean by magic being toned down?

It was pretty good back at Initial... did they make it weaker?

Yes cause it was pretty much way to overpowered.

It's been balanced with people who choose to use only melee/archery. People will argue and say that it isn't perfect, but it is a LOT better than before when magic was the only way to go.

Also, specializations have been added which give combat benefits at the cost of something else. For example, get increased magic protections at the cost of elemental magic, etc.

One of the biggest changes since you left is a huge amount of bug fixes and UI improvements. The game is more polished since when you left, but it also still has more that needs to be done.

They made it so you do reduced splash damage to the back. At release you used to do full back damage if you splashed a spell behind someone. They also added global cool downs, so people do not spam R90s anymore. Heavier armor has higher magic protections, so mages do less damage against heavy armor wearers. I believe that about sums up the changes they have made so far to balance magic.

    As for the game;

    -Player housing, vendors, banks
    -Increased cannon damage
    -Increased boat speed
    -Completely revamped siege mechanics
-6x faster leveling of magic schools on monsters
-3x faster leveling of archery/magic on monsters
    -New type of mount (Battlehorn)
    -Elemental bows
-Improved graphics (being implemented one piece at a time)
-Improved sound effects (being implemented one piece at a time)
    -New player protection
-Improved cheater protection (essentially no cheaters, or exploiters)
    -Improved macro protection
    -Improved monster AI
-Randomized, and improved item/gold drops from monsters

    Etc, etc, etc

The list goes on, and on, but those are a lot of the major changes to the game so far. Hope to see you back on Darkfall. I am sure you will find it to be quite a different game compared to release.

the game overall is much better IMO, the bug and UI fixes have helped a lot. I think there still needs to be some AI adjustments on some mobs to make it a little less frustrating for noob players. I just reactivated my account about a week ago after a 9 month break. I would suggest you reactivate also!!

Hope to see you in game! peace!

It has evolved greatly in pretty much all areas!

In the end its a matter of taste... it all depends on what you want out of the game. DFO can be awesome and thrilling, but can also be nothing more then frustration and boredom. It depends exclusively on your expectations and your approach to the game.

I would say its surely worth ~US$ 15,00 for a month's sub so that you check out and make up your mind on your own.

Best advice I can give you is: Dont trust your decision on the forums...

Have they finally added the Mahirim's run thing that they said would make them go as fast as mounts yet?

How would it be OP? They weren't supposed to be able to fight while doing that.

I was really looking forward to the Mahirim racial pseudo-mount thing too.

The whole key to surviving a loosing encounter is having enough mounts on you to run away. If enemies are right on you then you will need more then one, far away you will only need one. If there was a race that always had the ability to "mount up" (by doing four legged run) without physically needing a mount they would have a massive advantage in PVP. Instead Mahirim were given a 5-10% increase to normal run speed (not sprinting).
