come on now, lets talk generalities. A guy sent to eliminate a native enemy culture. Guy soon realizes that natives aren't actually evil because he falls in love. Natives however are hurt because the Guy doesn't realize their sincerity soon enough. Now guy must make it up to the natives by fighting with them and winning the battle.

    Give me a fucking break...

If you want to start talking generalities... just about every movie has a concept based on some other concept that's nearly identical with some plot twists. Get over your elitism and learn to enjoy a movie for the movie itself and not because of a cliche plot.

    Fuck.

    Fuck.
it has nothing to do with elitism is has to do with half the country being on JC's dick for an unoriginal video game (seeing as how there is more CG than metal gear solid 4)... God forbid someone make a movie with substance, unique plot or character development.

If you break down any movie to generalities it will be a copy of something else to a certain degree

Name a movie that is outright unique in the plot. I can't think of one, even movies like The Fall , or Renaissance , Ink , Strange Days and Dark City and Moon and The Fountain and The Matrix and A Scanner Darkly - although they may look original, when stripped down to generalities they are copies of other plots / idea's / concepts. But they gained praise for being 'unique' in the way they displayed that plot. Just like Avatar is displaying the plot in a unique manner

Obviously movies take from others which I why i put an or instead of an and for unique plot, substance OR character development.

The point is JC just spent money to throw CG /3d bullshit into his movie. He didn't even try to build off another movie, rather just took a tired and boring as blot and throw money on top of it to cover it up. Shit Michael Bay is the perfect example of why money DOES NOT make good movies. And hollywood wants to know why they are losing money...

You are still dodging the question you dumbass.

Name a movie that is unique or GTFO.

Memento - Memory loss / Amnesia

The Bourne Ultimatum, The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Identity, 50 First Dates, Total Recall, The Notebook, The Forgotten, Gothika, Anastasia, Paycheck, Regarding Henry, Dead Again,Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Long Kiss Goodnight , The Majestic, Desperately Seeking Susan, Overboard, Angel Eyes, Dark City, Clean Slate, Mulholland Drive, Amateur, Diminished Capacity

    The Usual Suspects - Crime

The Departed, ,American Gangster, Pulp Fiction, Collateral, Public Enemies, Mystic River, Payback, Gangs of New York, Heat, The Godfather Part III Blow, Bugsy, Goodfellas, Scarface, Casino, Donnie Brasco, Jackie Brown
Carlito's Way, A History of Violence, Snatch

12 Monkeys - A cross between Sci fi and a Thriller

    Cool Hand Luke - Drama

You get the idea, I'm not going to reel off another 50 movies for each of them

The point is that unless a movie is NOT in a genre, then by definition it is already a copy of a previous plot or idea, and cannot be unique. The only Unique movie would be one that actually introduces a totally new genre previously un-encountered

Can't comment The Usual Suspects or Cool Hand Luke since I've never seen them.

Momento: Guy is trying to remember shit about his past.

12 Monkeys: Guy goes back in time to save the day after apocalypse.

See how I generalized those movies to make them sound uninteresting and not unique. As Carnagel already stated that if you break a movie down far enough then you can see it is not unique at all. This is exactly what Erratic's arguement is for Avatar.

    @Erratic

WTF does 'substance' mean anyway, both it and character development seem highly subjective depending on who you talk to. Plot is really the only tangible aspect of a movie that can be compared to other movies. As already said most plots are copies of another movie.

Seriously? - Buy The Usual Suspects immediately. Freaking awesome movie. Also kind of hard to make it into a generalization lol.

Anyway, you do have a point...

Me personally? I see movies for movies... I'll prob see Avatar and enjoy it because I am 'ok' with not every moving being a masterfully done epic movie.

Sometimes you just want to see a bunch of shit blown up.

Yeah I'm probably going to see Avatar as well. I like seeing action type movies in theaters because you get hear all of the loud explosions and shit.

The only movies that I'm truly looking forward to are 'The Hobbit 1' & 'The Hobbit 2'. Funny thing is 'The Hobbit 2' is supposed to be released sometime in December 2012. Hopefully we are all still alive to see it.
