We noticed that the forum maintenance brought some speculation about whether this is done to facilitate the active subscriber forums. This is another frequently asked question that we'd like to address today.

The player forums are coming but this is not what the maintenance is about today.

The devs had announced that the player forums would happen quite some time ago and there was an effort to make that happen. During the planning for this it was decided it was better to incorporate them into a system of changes within the account management which also include the player transfer functionality and various other changes to improve the web experience. The player forums will be sub-forums within these existing forums, some will be viewable by all, but only active subscribers can post in them.

The ETA we have for the active subscriber forums is the end of October, and there is an effort to have this ready in time for Darkfall's second free expansion around the same time.

I am concerned with security on the 'subscriber only forums'. Please remember that there is a considerable hacking potential in combining account info with forum access, regardless of how clever you think you are - there are those that are more clever, and they only need to get lucky once.

I've seen in other games that it is possible to link a forum account and a game account together. While having 2 complete seperate usernames, passwords and e-mail adresses.

However if you are comprimised while you are linking these 2 accounts then yeah you are sol.

anyone who uses thier username the same as forum/character name deserve's to lose thier acc...

awesome! I think having subscriber only forums will be a huge improvement, since you won't have all the scrubs trolling around that aren't even sub'd to the game anyway.

It would be smart for Darkfall to follow Eve Online, with every expansion being pre-announced that it would in fact be free. Also telling us that we will never need to pay for another expansion ever, once its announced that there is an expansion coming that we will need to pay for in order to play, its only a sign the game is dying and the company is not getting enough money (World or War-craft, even tho they have like millions of subs, they are losing more and more every day)

Eve Online has so many subscribers because of some very cool features, like Game Time Cards and all Expansions being free. Players can legally buy with real money (30 day game time cards) and either use them for themselves or, turn into into an in-game item and sell them for ISK (gold) Legally! To players who can afford them. This is because technically the Company 'CCP' who owns Eve Online is not loosing money from this, because the buyer of the GTC is still paying his sub, and technically is also paying someone else's sub, in return for some ISK (Gold) In terms of gold farmers yes, they would be loosing money if people were buying from gold farmers because another company/illegal organization is profiting from this, not 'CCP'.

But in this scene, Eve Online was able to battle ISK sellers (Gold sellers) by implementing this. Also they are able to keep such a wide community attached to the game because it has been announced time and time again that all expansions will be free.

Darkfall, if confident (which they should be) should defiantly announce something like this, but they should wait some time also. They should wait until they see the game being up to standard, they should wait till they start advertising the game, and wait until everyone else 'outside of the community' reacts to Darkfall. After this point in time, they should then officially release such details of all expansions being free if they are confident, so that they are able to 'know its possible' to keep the game going off subs alone, and not offer the rest of us false hope that all expansions are free then hit us with an expansion that we will need to pay for.

Its something Darkfall/AV should keep in the back of their heads, and aim to do as a target. Because I defiantly believe this game has the potential to offer such services.

I'm not really interested in the subscriber only forums.. In my opinion it will shrink the community. A lot of players can't be bothered to log into the forums. We have 5 times the amount of guests on these forums compared to the members logged in.

If you want to kill forumfall you make subscriber only forums. its a very delicate process. You better think about what you are doing and be careful to do right whatever you are doing... You have a lot to lose. Forumfall is a massive, massive strength/ace for Aventurine and for Darkfall. And for the Darkfall players. .. Why change what works when it works so well?

I can say I am very concerned about this.

to be honest, it will probably be early november... im not saying its a bad thing, but shit happens and stuff will probably get delayed. there is a lot to do when implementing so much new stuff at once.
