Every recipe requires 5 of each material, 1 catalyst, and 100g
Weapon Rank, Mat quality, and Luck solely determine the outcome of a transmute.
Enchanting FAQ
Spoiler
I keep failing. Wtf? Check the recipe. If the recipe is correct, and you're putting in the correct quantity of the mats required (5 for each mat, 1 for each catalyst), then make sure you're putting the enchants in the correct slots. The bottom slot is for transmutes, and the top two slots are for enchants. Some items only have one slot listed, and this means that these items can only be enchanted, not transmuted.
Is it worth it to mix mats? Yes, Enchants and Transmutes always give a window of variability that's an average of the mats that you use ; so if you use 3 Q3 mats, you'll get a Q3 window, where as if you use Q3+Q3+Q5 mats in a recipe, you'll get a Q3.6666 window. The more high quality mats you use in a recipe, the better the window of possibilities.
Does the mat quality in a transmute effect the outcome? Yes, the higher the quality of the mats you use, the higher the damage range you'll be capable of achieving with the transmute.
Does the rank of the weapon I use in a transmute effect the outcome? Yes, the higher the rank of the weapon you use, the higher the damage range you'll be capable of achieving with the transmute.
Does the damage of a crafted weapon effect what the damage will be once I transmute it into an elemental weapon? Are crafted weapons with high rolls better to transmute than weapons with low rolls? No, it appears that a high roll on a crafted weapon will not translate to a higher roll on an elemental weapon, and most likely has no effect on the outcome of the transmute. You can get a maximum damage transmute from a minimum damage crafted weapon.
How does Keeness & Magnitude work? Keeness & Magnitude alter the base damage of your weapon ; this is important, because it means that instead of adding flat damage per attack, it adds extra damage to the value of your weapon - this value is then magnified by influences such as your STRENGTH and your WEAPON MASTERY
Do banes work? Yes, but they work differently than Keeness or Magnitude enchants. Banes add a flat damage after your base damage is calculated - if you have a weapon with +1.87 alfar slaying, it means each swing will deal an extra +1.87 damage in the front against alfar (and more in the back.), on top of the damage that's calculated from the value of your weapon.
What kind of staff should I use for staff transmutes? Racial rank 80s. Because of the fact that all transmuted staves are balanced for the .5 speed, there's no reason to use expensive staves like Cobra Staves (which are extremely fast) or Corpse Calls (which are extremely slow). Stick with the cheap rank 80 .5 speed racial staves - there's just no reason to spend 500g on a Corpse Call, when you can spend 150g on a racial staff and end up with the exact same transmuted weapon.
How expensive is it to raise enchanting? It takes roughly 500,000g in expenses to hit 50 enchanting, 1,100,000g to hit 75 enchanting, and 2,500,000g to hit 100 enchanting. Less if you can get exceptionally good deals on enchanting materials. These are assuming you're paying high-end market prices of about 10g per mat and 75g per catalyst; if you're frugal, you can end up spending a good bit less.
Is it possible to fail an enchant? No, it's not possible to fail an enchant as long as you are using the correct recipe, on the correct item, in the correct enchanting slot. The most common causes of a failed enchant would be putting the wrong mats into the Enchanting Matrix, or putting the enchanting mats into the wrong enchanting slot - I.E. putting a transmutation recipe into the first or second rows of the item's enchanting matrix.
What skill is required to use Quality X mats?
Quality 1 = 01.0
Quality 2 = 25.0 (150 to 300 crafts)
Quality 3 = 50.0 (750 to 1000 crafts)
Quality 4 = 75.0 (2,500 to 3,000 crafts)
Quality 5 = 100.0 (6,000 to 6,500 crafts)

"Allow me to begin again," Drizzt said. "Greetings, Akar Kessell." He bowed low.
"I am Drizzt Do'Urden, ranger of Gwaeron Windstrom, guardian of Icewind Dale. I have come to kill you."
you folks have just been given recipes that the us "high" enchanters have been keeping secret for weeks and the first thing you do is whine? ffs.
1 - TRANSMUTES are TRANSMUTATION. not formula 1
2 - ALL recipes are formula 2. if you cant figure out formula 1 you should not be an enchanter. it took us like 2 hours of fiddling to get 'm to work... 2 months ago.
3 - There are NO bow transmutations. at all. ever. nowhere. at all. stop asking.

1. This is all great stuff, but what would make it more useful would be information which items can be enchanted with all this? Mana efficiency goes on what? Stam efficiency goes on what... and so on?
2. Also, can you put same enchantment on different items, or each enchantment can only be put on same item (example, you can only put piercing protection enchantemnt to chest armor and no other piece of armor?)
3. I hear same enchants don't stack, so you can have only 1 of the same enchantment buff/protection/whatever at a time, is that correct? (example, 2 rings with mana efficiency would only give 1 buff, that true?)
Unless there are two piercing resistance recipes, the one you have listed is wrong.
Bone, Shadowcrest, Heart, and Nith gives piercing resistance, I've done a few myself.
So the only ones missing from public knowledge now are Banes + Keenness?
Heard there was a Holy and Unholy, that a myth?
Also heard that the Encumbrance or Mana Efficiency one is bugged somehow, but the details were sketchy. Myth?
I was hoping an Arcane resistance would pop up, but I guess we'll have to do without.
One last rumor, someone mentioned using both formula 1 and 2 slots together somehow, called it formula 3. I assume he was full of shit?
Would be nice if someone knew the catalyst for spell duration, but no big deal, wont take long to figure out if someone actually needs such an enchant.
Also would be nice if someone explained what Formula 1 is. I've only done transmutations and Form 2's, but another enchanter I know claimed that spell haste worked in Form 1 on a staff.
Either way, OP earns an A in my book. Thanks for all the help.
