View Full Version : Infractions

Are there guidelines for how many points an infraction is worth?
Like, are certain broken rules worth more, or less, or is it completely at the discretion of the mod?
Also, is there a set number of points at which you are suspended/banned/permabanned?
I have a feeling that all of the values are at discretion, but I was just curious.

If you reach 10 you get suspended, Brannoc only gives them out in 10's and as a result lets alot of the petty shit slide which is a good way to do things imo.
I think you get 3 or 5 depending on how much you have flamed the mods alt account/pissed him off and you only get a warning if they like you imo.

I hear it's also based on if you're in Murder Herd or not.

For public curiosity:
There definitely are guidelines for how much an infraction is worth. I won't break it down for you, but the idea is the ToS is divided into more, or less, serious offenses. Categories 1-3 for the more experienced of you. Category one are the lessers and three is for the big boys. There's some insta bannage as well, but they are more for serious things like ban evasion or hate speech.
The basic idea is that when you mess up a mod will look at what you did, and look at the guide line. They'll also take into account your personal history of infractions which might get the infraction knocked down to a warning, or boosted up to a more serious point count. How points add up over time is a bit more obscure, but should you rack up 50 of the permanent points, your done.
Moderating isn't an exact science. There isn't a flow chart you can follow to making sure you get the correct outcome for a given scenario. Every case is largely a judgement call. Sometimes we nail it, sometimes we fuck up.

They are not permo points, i don't think i have any permo point i did not know they even existed.
edit- just checked, mine have expired...
You must have to do something pretty fucking awful to get permo points as i have said some pretty OTT things before. Back in the day tho you could pretty much do wtf you wanted.

The mods are utterly biased in ForumFall. Nephew politics ftw.
They spam infractions to everyone except their friends and ppl who they like.

Just as long as the forum in no way impacts the game with reguards to being able to login i don't have a problem with it as it does add some flavour.
I think it is obvious from today that Methuselah is in MH's pocket, but i like to think i know a few that would give me the benefit of the doubt, then again some just love fucking sticking it to me for whatever reason they can so i guess it evens out.

We answer to a higher power. Our actions are subject to review, and we serve at Brannoc's pleasure. You can harbor these thoughts if you like, but I can say from a postion of knowing that they're baseless. Looking at your history, Amon, I can't say you were treated wrongly, but if you ever feel a Mod has abused their power take it up with Brannoc, or Sprite.

Aye, not saying you guys have no overview but from what I understand it requires the person involved actually contacting Brannoc and getting him to do something about it. Unless that occurs you seem to be able to modify things pretty much as you please.
Not that most of you are that bad.

I said something deliberately racist and offencvie and only got a suspention and no permo points.
I actualy cannot imagain what you would have to do to get owned so hard, having said that with all these new mods they do seem to be a bit trigger happy. Hopefully they will mellow with time.
Brannoc always has their back anyway no matter how retardedly petty the reason for your points, even if he would not have given you points himself, it is very easy break the ToS.

I doubt it. If the boards still exist post-release, the mods will get owned and dry-looted a a lot, and will log and come on here handing out infractions like candy to reduce their stress.
I don't see a lot of us making it to ltf status... :(

they may, they may not. I was refering more to their skill in-game, as opposed to just being targeted for having a mod-name.

I think moderation trends follow the level of poster retardation by and large. We've had higher than normal amounts of spam threads and bullshit here in OT lately so the moderation has increased. This shouldn't really be a shock.

We volunteer to do a pretty thankless job so he won't run off and throw us under the bus for bullshit, but he wouldn't hesitate to get rid of a mod who keeps abusing his limited power either.

Most of the infractions I got were handed out for the dumbest reasons.
70% I called someone a fruitcake.
30% Random ToS nonsense a mod has twisted to his liking. Hence the " our opinions are entirely our own" clause.
I have no problem if a longterm mod comes and throws out infractions since they are usually the tough ones who tell ppl to fuck off, die, choke, hang, whatever and insult whenever possible. It's great!
Now there are some new 08' mods with 03' alts or so, who are way too carebear to be on ForumFall in the first place.
They always find whats wrong with my posts but they never infract other posts/threads that break ToS x10.
Heck I got a 3point infraction for referring to NA people as 'chubby'. Yay!

There was a thread where ppl found out some beta players were infact mods here with a slightly different name.

No offense taken. It's a common misconception that we're all a bunch of assholes who run around doing what we want. There's always a Us vs. Them mentality when you have someone in an authority position. Especially in a forum like this one with such a Libertarian streak. It's kind of why I've been responding to this thread so much. I just wanted to clear up some of these misconceptions.

I remember nailing someone on a hypothetical situaion very much like this, but the word was different, somehow much harsher, and in violation of that sticky on the top of the page. Hmmm. You guys should read those things from time to time. This also goes back to what I was saying about moderation following poster trends.
As to how you get nailed once and don't another time - you got lucky. We missed it. It happens.
