Anyone know of a decent video editing program? something that will have the ability to Add text/effects, options to edit audio and video?

Never used one before, So any advice on a particular one would be great.

I use After Effects. Once you learn how to manage your compositions and layers, it's all you really need.

Adobe has a student program where you can get their programs for 80% off.

yup, adobe is one that I've used.

I have several friends, however, who tell me that apple's video-editting suite (final cut pro, audio, effects, don't remember all of the brand names) is better. I'm not quite sure why though, I've used both and I have an easier time using premiere.

Sony Vegas is another one that exists, though I've never used it and never heard of a person using it.

of course you should only buy this stuff if you've taken a couple of courses on more advanced video editting. Otherwise you'll never get your money's worth, and these programs tend to be on the expensive side (even with the aforementioned student discounts.)

Windows Movie Maker. It comes with Windows so it's free and probaly already on your computer.

Sony Vegas is quite awsome, just takes a little while to learn.

Have you tried Windows Movie Maker?

It usually comes packaged with windows XP and Vista... It is basic but functional way to do what you are asking and you don't pay 200+ for a advanced editing software.

that's a good starting point.

I'd recommend learning in this order.

Windows Movie Maker < Adobe Premiere < Sony Vegas + Particle Illusion.

learn from left to right.

Windows movie maker is easy and any retard can make a simple video with it.
You already have it on your computer also as its included with windows.

If you want to pay few 100 bucks (or do it illegal) you can try to get sony vegas 8.
Sony vegas is a good program but also abit less simple then windows movie maker so you might need to practise and mess around with it for abit.

i've used vegas for a lot of movies and it's definitely good for most things you'll want to do with videos. I suggest watching the tutorial on google and you'll be good to go. Vegas has it's limits tho, so i know i'll be looking into this particle program.

In a comparision between Vegas and Premiere, which one would be better functionally-wise?

Actually, i'm "buying" Premiere as we speak.

Is there a video capture feature, along the same lines as fraps? or should i use a different program to capture video then import them to adobe?

Final Cut pro.

I'm a fan of Vegas, I think if you want special effects and stuff you need something extra like After Effects but for video editing and composition it is really straight forward and easy to use.
