I'm shopping for a laptop for my grandmother. The odd thing is that she doesn't need a high performance grade, just a laptop that is reasonably obsolescent and highly durable for the lowest possible cost.

for a cheapo brick laptop go to amazon.com, buy.com, newegg.com etc.

I usually like deals at newegg.com and officemax.com and officedepot.com

don't go to sams.com, bestbuy seems to have shit deals, but sometimes they have INCREDIBLY clearance deals. Don't go to hp.com right now, the red tag sale doesn't give you anything special other than a free blu ray player. At dell.com you could probably get a cheap as shit computer that runs like shit.

Lol before christmas on black friday I remember radioshack selling a cpu in the newspaper for 99$, I doubt that deal is still there though :
