Hi everyone, I'm looking for an mmorpg to pass the time. I've probably played most of what you guys will suggest, but I'm just curious to see if anything interesting will come up. If you know of any good games that I could play to pass the time till this comes out let me know. Drop a link or two. We can even talk about the game as well. Thanks.

Forget MMOs. DWARF FORTRESS.
Linkage: http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/
It doesn't look like much, but trust me, this is the best game I have ever played, by far.

The demand for games has resulted in low quality for a high price. All free MMOs are free because they're broken, and all retail MMOs can't afford to stray from their cookie cutout because of production costs. You can either play an old game like Asheron's Call or ShadowBane, or download the trial for Eve online and see if maybe you fill that niche.

If you're looking to just pass the time, this is the way to go. It's hard to get into at first, but when you start to understand the way things work you'll find it's one of the best timewasters around.

It's not only a great timewaster, it's completely open ended. I can build a statue of liberty out of platinum if I decide to. Or I can dig a whole to China and fill it with skeletal polar bears and magma. Not that I've done either of these things, but I could. Plus once the army arc is completed I can take the seige back to the goblins. Take that mother fuckers!!!

DF has really got epic in the past year with the introduction of Z levels and the totally revamped world generator which generates a completely random and unique history for your world.

How about volunteering to help dwarves get their settlement off the ground? That's helping unfortunates isn't it?
Especially since my dwarves seem to be semi-retarded most of the time.

Obviously inspired by The Incredible Machine. Have they ever released any newer version of that game?
Anyway, World of Goo off Steam for $10 is a good way to blow some time.

It's not really graphics, it's more like an extremely sophisticated command line :p
Still, the game is awesome, I'm currently building a combined aesthetic waterfall, drowning-trap and irrigation system

Like I said, it's a hard game to get into... open the dwarffortresswiki.com and go to "my first fortress". Follow it step by step, and look up anything you don't know. You can try learning it on your own, but I don't recommend it.
Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

I'm not. I honestly love this game. I've put more hours into it than I've put into most other games (non-mmo).
Honestly, it's a great game. I don't know what else to say.

I'm playing Atlantic Online right now. If you do the quests constantly the grind is much easier than most MMO's...it only really gets grindy at all at the highest levels. It has a unique turn based strategy PVP system, with plenty of room to be creative with potentially effective builds. Strategy rules over equipment. The PVP is divided into divisions which have people of similar levels, generally. You get monetary and honorary gains from pvp, which increase as you go up in division rank and fame. The game also has some large scale combat between nations, although its not the primary PVP medium. It's no darkfall, but It's kept me occupied for a solid month no problem. Check it out.

Most important thing is to get underground farms going. Dig yourself a hole, make a barracks and a dining hall, then focus on getting the farms built. I usually bring about 100 units of food and the same of drink (although drink goes twice as fast as food, but it's not essential to survival if you have a water supply. Just make sure to zone for drinking or your dwarves won't touch it.
Beyond that it is up to you. Mess around a bit, it took me 3 days of playing to figure out the controls. Once you figure it out though it's really a lot of fun. Use the wiki as much as you need to, in fact keep the game open in windowed mode with the wiki right underneath it so you can look things up quickly.
Remember that farms can only be built on mud, so you'll need to irrigate the area before you build them. Dig a channel to a water source, put in a couple of floodgates, and try not to flood your entire town.
