I believe in God, in the sense of a methaphor for personal enlightenment, and I accept that it is possible there is a sentient creator of the universe, albiet a bit unlikely. I think anyone that is a complete atheist is taking the stance out of spite. The only answer that makes any sense to take is one of non-commitment to any theory. Saying there can be no higher power is wrong because we have no way of knowing one way or the other, we don't know the beginning and we shouldn't write off anything no matter how ludicrous it may be simply because we can not begin to understand.

Saying that you are a part of a church or religion of some sort is stupid, in all honesty, because there is no reason at all to believe such fairy tells would be true. I'd begin to argue against religion but it pretty much argues against itself and everyone that has ever given serious thought to the subject knows that already.

That being said, an agnostic-atheist blend is probably the best answer you can hope to get. One that claims you do not hold any religion to be true in any aspect but you do not claim there can't be an almighty source of power present in or out of our universe on the basis that there is no way to know and most likely there never will be until such force presents itself.

TL;DR: Atheist leaning Agnosticism is the most logical system of belief for full-fledged Atheism is too extreme and Theism is lacks any evidence, proof, or logic.

I believe in God, in the sense of a methaphor for personal enlightenment, and I accept that it is possible there is a sentient creator of the universe, albiet a bit unlikely. Agnosticism is a way of believing in God but not in organized religion, which is hardly, "sitting on the fence." But nice troll thread. There's so much wrong with this. I'm not a god and I've never met one, but assuming one or more exists and it/they is(are) judgemental god(s), I would think it would require more of you then simply "I believe some god exists." I see this too often... "Of course I believe that a god exists" or "Of course I believe in the possiblity of a god existing" because "if I don't and he's real I might go to hell!" That's not truly believing. Don't kid yourself. If god exists and he'll punish you for not believing, he's going to know whether or not you actually believe with your heart or are just trying to avoid punishment.

Also (and again there's no way of knowing this, just my thoughts), but I think a great being would care much more about what you did with your life and how good of a person you are than whether or not you believed in his existence. If this is the case, then indeed a great many and perhaps the vast majority of so called believers might have a judgement passed on them they weren't expecting...What's better? A person who does good and believes in no god, or a person who believes in god but isn't such a good person? Who would god think more highly of?
