I haven't followed his case too closely. He was a dumbass but there is apparently lots of reason to believe he might have been set up particularly in how the FBI received the info on his financial transactions with that hooker (through NSA data-mining).

Just follow the dates of the posts on this thread. There are a lot of pages of posts but it'll become clear by page 2 what's going on.

Spitzer is a columnist now. It is kinda funny his views in his articles contradict what he said when he was governor. He even criticized the bailouts and the FED.

that republican fund raiser blew the whistle on him i believe...some hooker in florida told the guy and he passed it along to the FBI from what i understand. He's the guy that called Spitzers Father in a drunken rant and left a message.

Let me guess. You're a dumbass idiot. What did anything I post have to do with anything you typed? You obviously did not read the thread. That thread started in 2006, dumbass.

That's not the story I've heard. The upshot is Spitzer was apparently closing in on Madoff in 2006 then whoops! Spitzer gets tagged. $50B is a helluvalotta influence.

note: as I said, Spitzer was a dumbass so he's not an innocent victim.

yep, Spitzer deserved to get nailed

however...i think many folks are missing a bigger picture here, the politicization of the Justice department coupled with the illegal wiretaps and data mining against U.S. citizens without proper warrants

the earliest cases this stuff got used against were kiddie pr0n...nobody would object, right?

i wonder how much about the Illinois governor (who also deserves court time, imo) was gotten from datamining/illegal taps?

and do remember what Inglesias said at the beginning of the fired federal prosecutors flap...it was about not going after political prosecutions (and do remember, Inglesias is the IRL guy that the movie a Few Good Men (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0104257/) was about)

as more surfaces, this shit makes Nixon's Watergate/enemies list fiasco look like girl scout camp in comparison...imagine that, and have a look at how many folks in the W administration served in Nixon's

i'm just sayin'...

Spitzer was picked up with datamining/illegal wiretaps...? I havent seen that story...here's what i read:

The investigation was purportedly initiated after North Fork Bank[21] reported suspicious transactions to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as required by the Bank Secrecy Act. According to Newsday, Spitzer wanted to transfer more than $10,000 to what turned out to be a front for the prostitution ring. However, he broke up the transactions into smaller slices due to federal law requiring the reporting of any transfer of $10,000 or more. When he tried to get his name taken off the wires, the bank refused, saying that the money had already been wired out and that it would be improper to do so in any case. The IRS's Criminal Investigation Division then started a probe, initially fearing that Spitzer was the victim of either extortion or identity theft.[22]

Screenshot of the website of Emperors Club VIP showing list of prices for escort services.North Fork's report in July 2007 went largely unnoticed until HSBC in the fall filed a report that the transactions were going to QAT International and QAT Consulting Group, which were offshore shell companies operating as a front for the Emperors Club.[23]

Later, the IRS contacted the FBI to investigate possible political corruption. The investigation led Federal authorities to link the money transfers to the Emperors Club.[24][25] Prosecutors charged the four people operating the escort service with violations of the Mann Act, a week prior to the revelations of Spitzer's involvement.[26]

On November 19, 2007, Republican operative Roger Stone sent a letter to the FBI saying that Spitzer "used the service of high-priced call girls" while in Florida. Stone provided detail saying that Spitzer wore calf-length black socks while performing the sex act.[27]

Spitzer announced on March 12 that he would resign his post as Governor effective March 17, amid threats of his impeachment by state lawmakers.[2]

"I cannot allow for my private failings to disrupt the people's work," Spitzer said at a news conference in New York City. "Over

not "picked up on it" by any means...sorry if i was unclear

they gathered plenty of evidence to sink the fucker with, some reports are making the allegations that some of the original leads came from taps/mining

i hope to all that is unholy i am mistaken, and the kind of shenanigans intimated are all just /tinfoil...

but the worst is, we will most likely never know one way or the other
