Heya, thought about re-installing Diablo 2 and fooling around a bit.
Is there any way to play on nightmare level right away?

Nope have to beat it first.
You could prob get a char already that has won it downloaded from somewhere.
I actually like beating it with a guy then going into nightmare, kind of makes you feel like you're building from the ground up.

A lvl 1 character playing nightmare difficulty would get destroyed.

You would die immediately at level 1, yeah. And what's the fun in starting at nightmare? It's roughly just as difficult to start at a higher level on nightmare compared to starting at level 1 on normal, so just play through on normal and then maybe try nightmare if you have the attention span for it.
I certainly didn't...I think I got to Act 3 on nightmare before I was bored.

Download character files for something decent & beat Diablo or Baal, whoever is boss in your version of Diablo II. Then roll a new toon... But you'll die horribly, so you might as well start a new character & play through the normal difficulty...
Honestly, I think each character unlocks new difficulties as they progress, the above won't work.

This mod for D2 really ups the intensity and has a ton of new stuff:

I am quite uncertain of this. If it would be to difficult I'd boost my char with a few cheats from the start. But normal level is just to easy for me.

Install that mod I listed, it makes the game tougher as well from what I remember. It's a crazy mod - it re-does the skilltrees, let's you respec on the fly, adds new monsters, items, weapons etc..
It's pretty crazy.

Oh thank you very much, I was looking for some good mod.
But I don't have LoD...I'd have to "get" it then... meh.
Any mods out there for normal Diablo?

If you're playing online you could just ask for someone to run you through normal, it takes like 16 seconds to do so. But it's also pointless, like mentioned before.

Not that I am aware of. LOD expansion is like 5 bucks or something - totally worth it for the extension of the game, and addition of new classes.
I dunno, I think it's one of the few worthwhile expansion purchases I can think of off-hand. I'd just go get the full D2 battlechest for like 20 bucks somewhere I still see them here and there.

Ye it's a good expansion, I just can't buy it right now. All stores are closed.
Aff, should've saved my chars.
Is it possible to re-install the game and get online with the char you had made online?
I think I have a char online thats pretty high up. Or is that char lost for ever if you uninstall the game?

I think the chars are stored locally regardless. I have some high levels stored here and there I could send you, but again they wouldn't be 'your own' and you can't exactly respec :o
Just play from the start for now, then when stores open get the expansion, then beat it and you are now on nightmare. :o
You gotta build the character you want or it's total suck. If I send you a whirlwind barbarian and you wanted to have a hammerdin or something, what do you do then?
Ground up mang - level 1 is the only way to roll. You can blaze through it - just never go to town and straight shot to quests. You still need to hit 31-32 though for NM to be viable...
If you are playing single player, you can simply type /players 8 to increase the difficulty, loot and XP.

Online characters should still be there, try logging in on Bnet.

Interesting.
So let me get this straight. If I use a so called char editor or importa char that has completed "Normal" then I can start a new nightmare char?
Or I can simply write /players 2-8 in console and increase difficulty?

Ah yeah forgot that trick, best one to use. Makes the beginning much more entertaining for sure.

Aight I'll try that, I can play MP chars singleplayer right?

Characters always start on normal, but you can edit that. It's more fun to play a character from level 1 though, and with /players 2-8 you can adjust the difficulty/loot/xp as you go on.

Nope, don't think so, assuming you mean transferring them to play them in "offline" mode.

Sure, just create an online game with player limit set to 1, or passworded.

You can't make a nightmare character, they are only characters that have finished normal, so are like level 25-32 depending on how fast you complete it.
Your best and most fun bet would be to use the /players 8 switch and build your ideal character from the get-go.

ah so despite completing the game on a certain char I can't start the next one on nightmare but I can use an editor to change the source files of the char to make the game recognise it as a "nightmare" char?

Yeah the /players 8 seems cool. I'll try that, thanks.
ACT 3 sucks so much... I don't know if I'll be arsed to complete it but we'll see ^^

I'll be honest, I've used editors etc.. And it really removes the attachment you have to a character that you have been jacking with for hours and :ohno::ohno::ohno: should I pick this skill??? etc..
Editing it removes the one thing that makes D2 so fun and 'hardcore' the placement of a point that can never be moved no matter how much you bitch and moan.
Now that mod I linked, it's like Diablo Crack edition - you can mod stats while running around, pop in skills you need for a certain fight right there in the wild.
It's kind of nutty but badass in a wierd way. All skills are different and characters have other characters skills that they never had before etc.. It's wild, like a whole new game.
It also has cool shit like unlimited stash, and a shared stash you can use BETWEEN characters. So you can drop it into a communal stash for each char etc.. Pretty odd but badass.

/players 8 was the best suggestion thus far...
You can actually go higher than 8... /players 24 makes it REALLY interesting when you run into a goblin camp early on, but you gotta find the setting where the XP is maximized.
