I have gotten a "new" vista from my Dad... it's, as expected, crap. But has 1 gb of Ram and a better graphics card than this one. I want to know if downgrading it to XP is better and if you can help me in that regard.

XP is (in my opinion) better if you are just a gamer/school work etc. Alot of older games don't work on vista. From what I understand Vista is great for the business place though...anyway, downgrading is easy if you have the software.

You've got a new vista? What? You got a laptop with vista on or what?
Vista is better if the hardware can run it, without a doubt, but if it's struggling better to just go down to xp to free up resources, and if you only have 1gb thats probably a wise move.
vista
1 gb of Ram
Well there's your problem.
Either get more RAM or, somehow, downgrade to XP.

get more memory leave vista, its not that bad anymore, just like xp got alot better, memory is cheaper than XP lol.
I hated it last year but after many many windows patches it seems stable now.

With only a Gig of RAM, I think you'd notice a big jump in performance with XP over Vista. My laptop has Vista, and I think it's a bit of a memory hog, but even my laptop has 3 gigs of RAM.

Another 2 gigs of RAM would be dirt cheap, assuming the computer supports it (Though I think it's impossible it doesn't.) Maybe you should consider leaving Vista on the computer and checking Newegg or something for the type of memory you need.

Vista + 1GB of RAM = no.
But even with XP a gaming PC should have 2GB of RAM at the very least.

Vista is better if the hardware (most notably the RAM) is there to handle it. With 1 GB of RAM I'd either downgrade to Vista or get more memory. And to be honest I'd probably get more memory, as you'll get significantly more benefit for the same price that way.

yea, to use vista, you really need like 3-4 gb of ram. if not 8, and the 64 bit version.
