Teaser doesn't show anything that matters. Just touched up theatrical shit. No gameplay videos out. Art direction looks very stock. Those races and graphical style remind me of dreadful asian grind games. Screenshots look like L2 or silkroad online. I can't find a single redeeming feature other than promises from an unproven pre-alpha dev team. Still potentially vaportrash as well.
I don't see a single reason to follow that game with DFO coming out.

About all its features (on paper) seem to be in Darkfall too. Makes me wonder what is there that makes one choose Mortal Online instead of Darkfall Online. It is very obvious that people already playing Darkfall won't have to even think about switching to Mortal Online, but I wonder if those who already follow Mortal Online consider at least trying Darkfall. I mean why would people skip Darkfall and just wait for Mortal if they're quite similar to each other?
Also, if both games succeed, could they both stand with enough player base...

Looks good. The graphics are great, there is mounted magic and archery, everything is in first person which is awesome and the races are original.
But i heard that there are instances, which might suck, and the whole thing looks like vaporware, there is only 1 screenshot, and the trailer didn't show any real gameplay.

Their community is also carebear as hell which makes me think the game will be changed by launch.

You know, I see people sneer on Mortal and other games, like they don't make their own engine and so on.
Umm, well, a finished engine that is optimized and actually works is better than Darkfall's engine, which looks like something pre-Morrowind. People don't care if you use proprietary Uber Flying Ninja Mutant Terminator or some no-name piece of crap, as long as it works. If piece of crap works better than your special made engine, then you wasted 5 years working on it only to release something that is already obsolete. Mortal guys will take the existing engine, slap in enough content and MAKE MONEY. So who's the more foolish?
It'll be funny if Darkfall and Mortal release within just a few months of eachother, and Mortal is hands down better. It'll be hilarious.

The Darkfall engine was designed to work with dozens if not hundreds of players on your screen at the same time. Sacrifices need to be made when aiming for that goal. Mortal Online uses the Unreal Engine 3, right? Yeah, good luck with that. :lmao:
And Mortal Online isn't going to release in 2009. 2010 might be possible if they're lucky. They couldn't possibly release an MMORPG this soon, unless it's pure crap which it sounds like it will be anyway.

Not enough the devs keep their release date.

Release dates (S, as in plural) mean nothing. That's not based on Darkfall's history, that is based on the history of gaming. I would say that it applies even more to the company which has been developing a product for what, 8 years now, and broken countless promises to their would-be costumers.

I think he was referencing this..
In essence, you will have to give up certain attributes and/or skills in favor for others, meaning your choice of skills will be restricted. In turn, you will benefit from certain Class-bonuses as long as you stay true to your Class by meeting the prerequisites. Whether it’s worth to make that sacrifice or not is of course up to you.
It is not necessary, but still.

Less, they restarted the whole game back in 03, from what i recall. And, cleverly, they never give a date for release, so they haven't really broken any promises yet. January 22nd is the first release date (ignoring the old beta date, years ago)

They recently broke their promise about 2008 release and pushed it back to January to ensure a decent product. Why would they break the new release date which was put in the same time that they "let us down". Of course it has to be very serious date now. Also, this release date was set
closer to the promised date than the previous one (2008) and obviously is now more accurate too.

keeperofstars
12-07-2008, 09:12 PM
the skill system in MO is so fucking retarted it will cause the game to fail.
I mean really look at this shit.
Secondary Skills
The Secondary Skills are the bulk of the skill tree. They are of a vast number of skills that are connected to each other in a very complex network. Secondary Skills have to be discovered and learned in the game by books, tutoring and/or to a lesser extent by other means like magic or achievements. The prerequisite of a Secondary Skill may be another Secondary Skill, a Primary Skill, any Attribute or any combination thereof. For example, learning the Secondary Skill “Advanced Poison Making” may require you to have the Secondary Skills “Beast Lore” which in turn is based on “Zoology”, as well as “Poison Making” that is based on “Basic Herbalism” that is based on “Botany” and so on.
I have to learn ferret masterbation, and wolf humping, in order to gain the ability to make advanced poisons? Where the fuck does that make any sense? I mean can't wait to go into a fight, and have my party go "WTF man stop humping that cat and help us kill this dragon." "oh sorry guys its the only way I can finish maxing out my poison skill so I can apply poison on the dragon"
Then there is the stat lose part. 5 minutes per kill. So if you kill 10 people, you stuck with half an hour of 10% stat and skill lose. Noting that its similar to UO where you are basically fucked with perma stat lose if you actually PvP outside of guild wars.
Then there is this gem.
Q: Can I have more than one character on my account?
A: Yes. By creating an account you create your own Deva, or “shared soul”, in the game. Your Deva can have several characters connected to it. The Deva grows in power as each of your characters do and can even learn skills that all your characters will benefit from. Read more about skills and the Deva further down.
Shared skills and abilities based on the amount of time you have to play the game, so more time invested between your crafter, mage, and warrior means your better then everyone. I am not against this concept I am all for rewarding play time dont get me wrong. However, rewarding people for having multiple alts, just sounds like a bad idea.
Now for the whole who cares if they are using the unreal engine 3 to make the game? LOL go talk to fury devs about why its a bad idea do to this. The engine looks great works well, is easy to code / develop with. And sucks major ass balls when you throw more then 10 people in the same area. It's not designed to handle the MMO atmosphere, Its built for FPS.
Now don't get me wrong MO will be a nice gift for all the disappointed UO players that hate what the game has became. It will play very much like old school UO. However, why fucking play a UO copy placed in Unreal engine. When you can play DF. fuck at worse case you can atleast sail around the oceans and blast shit in DF.
Also its not that DF couldnt do the mounted archery / magic. They chose not to as a way to prevent the game from being 100% mounted combat. Go play mount and blade and after some practice you quickly learn that you never get off your fucking horse for anything.
Overall I see MO just closing up shop after DF hits the market. Will be much like Mythos. They have a good product which would have a nice niche, but about a week after Blizzard announced D3 closed up shop, cause they knew even if they beat the release the game would become ghost town after D3 hit the market.

What’s with all the hate in this room? We all love Darkfall so why do we have to hate something which seems very similar. Is it not natural to be curious of other sandbox games?
ahhh... Well, now we know that it's a real, existing game.

Yeah its real but the team seems smaller than Darkfall one. Anyway I hope they will deliver a great game.
Damn when I watch a video about people making video games, I wish I would have gone in this industry!
