View Full Version : Post your irrational fears!

Post your irrational/stupid fears of past or present. I’ll start:

-When I was about 4, I was afraid of a wheelchair bound downs-syndrome person. I had never seen one before, and my first encounter was pretty frightening for a child.
I was alone in the changing room of a public waterpark, getting ready to do some swimming. Just as I was heading to the door I heard a loud bang. I turn around and there is some crazy looking guy with a weird face coming straight at me full speed in a wheelchair. I started screaming and ran the FUCK AWAY.
I ran out to the public swimming area to the nearest lifeguard and asked for help, I made a pretty big commotion pointing at this poor disabled man as he wheeled out, ready for swimming himself.
A few years later when I understood things a bit better I felt pretty bad.

-Shining Time Station, ‘Mysterious Stranger’ episode (kids show with George Carlin in it): dunno why, maybe I was afraid of things in the dark too. Link (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzIVZaZIZQ8&feature=related)
There was also an episode where for a fraction of a second they show you a hole in the wall and all you see are two wide eyes staring menacingly at the children… that fucked me up for years.
-also to do with children's shows, this: children encountering Satan. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q29CmMHSQ3M&feature=related)

-Germans: Again, when I was little, my cousin’s German friend had a flesh eating disease on his neck (he lived somehow lol). My cousin lied to me and told me all Germans have it and its contagious… so needless to say, I started staying the fuck away from anyone who I thought was German... even though I didn't really know how to tell at the time.

I have a lot of irrational fears, mainly stuff that comes up as a image in my head. I believe many people would want me heavily medicated for having these images pop into my head. Fuck them.

I'm a hypochondriac. Fear of fatal diseases and actually believing I am ill from them, anything from HIV to different forms of cancer.

Been for years, now Im in a phase where I believe I have testicular cancer, might be true though or my excessive worries are making me delusional causing the symptoms.

This is going to sound like a e-peen booster, but I really don't get scared. I don't think I have a memory of being afraid of anything, although when something jumps out of nowhere or a spider dives off my dresser and lands on my chest (Which just happened) I might get a little freaked out.

Operating motor vehicles, seriously. I got some crazy fear about it and hate driving and only do so when I absolutely have to. Otherwise I prefer riding a bike. I won't even use a ride-on lawnmower, have to use one you push.

Was a tiny bit afraid of heights. But my main fear was the earth ending in a sudden or slow manner (armegedon). Usually it was an asteroid, but the earth ending in zombies got to me to, and sicknesses. It is still my fear to this day.

Public speaking >.>

If I am with friends I can talk to them all about anything, two nights ago I was at buffalo wild wings and I got up on my table and asked a waitress for her number...she was on the other side of the restaurant, I can ask a group of people a question with absolutely no problem, but...

You call it a speech and I get nervous, studder, talk fast, sweaty palms. Maybe I am just scared of the word "speech" though right now it doesn't bother me...

Large bodies of water, at least large enough that I can't see/feel the ground. Same with heights, but not as much.

Shoes, socks, or anything that restricts toe movement. Unfortunately it's hard to avoid this... fear... thing.

Mirrors or anything with clear reflections. I tend to see things in them. Once I thought I saw my dead friend. :-

Open doors. They must be closed.

Boobs (all girls seem to have this fear).

Intimacy. I must admit that I absolutely hate close relationships, whether it be romantic, platonic, or familial. It makes me paranoid for some odd reason.

Being afraid. It looks pathetic. That's why I'm good at conquering my ph34rz.

I'm afraid of getting angry. Not sure that it is totally irrational, used to hurt people when I was angry a lot. Luckily, because I was a child, so were my targets. And everyone knows that children don't matter.

Ah, right. I also get anxious when I have to go out in public and do responsible things. Like getting a job, going to school, buying stuff. Part of it is that I am not anything close to a morning person. I am especially anxious when buying things with someone else's money.

This for me as well. Except the sickness part. And really death doesnt scare me any more. As a christian im kinda ,"either im wrong and there is nothing to be afraid of, or im right and im going to heaven".

Bears. It's not totally irrational since we have bears in the woods but they hardly ever kill someone. It's just that you're so fucked if a bear wants to kill you since it's faster, stronger, a better climber, more durable and it will pro probably survive a gunshot.

Whenever I watch a video on YouTube, I always think it will end with that zombie popping up and screaming. I'll usually turn down the volume at the end of a movie or just switch it off entirely 5 seconds before the end. Depends on what it is of course, if it's a Monty Python video I'm less worried than if it's some random thing.

I live in an all girls dorm. And my mom doesn't say buster she says chap seeing as she isn't american. Moreover I usually say dear, hun, and darling; but he was making me angry and I said buster instead of bitch. Okay damn it! You caught me. ARE YOU FUCKING HAPPY NOW?!

I imagine an old woman, witch looking, with really long finger nails starting at the top of my foot and just running down them with her fingernail. My feet are ticklish as shit.

Like this, I cannot sleep without something covering me (other than clothes I mean). Even in the summer, I will have a blanket. Even when my dad is too cheap to turn on the AC...

Also a little bit of heights.
Bugs...tend to avoid those (especially if they startle me)

Dude, no fucking way. Same thing for me. Except I never really had a frightening experience and it actually developed over time instead of going away over time. Sometimes at school, I run into one passing the special ed. room and get the fuck out asap. I'm not really scared of them so much as I get really really uneasy around them, like they're gonna bite me or start talking to me or some shit.

What stupid people fail to realize is that just as in real life I'm actually very open with my emotions instead of trying to be the emotionless e-hardasses most people here are attempting to be which is why they constantly try and call me out and make stupid accusations.

i forgot about spiders on my towels.
everytime i take a shower i get out and whip my towel a good number of times and survey it to make sure no critters are hiding on it. mostly scared of getting spiders on my junk, that would trip me the fuck out.

once there was a spider in my draws when i put them on, i jumped the fuck outta them as fast as possible, since then i have had an irrational fear for spiders, if they get to near me i will go crazy and smash them and i avoid them.

I also have an irrational fear of mold or things that look nasty such as severe acne. Its not really a fear but when i see them my nose itches and my skin starts to itch.

Me three. I don't know why I started it, but I always cover up my neck when I'm sleeping. Probably because I thought my dad was a vampire... He looks just like one (vampire fangs and everything). He's kind of abusive, too. Or I was afraid of being bitten back by someone. I used to bite people and try to suck their blood when I was younger... Didn't know what vampires were back then, though... I have a fear of deep water.

first time i ever experienced it was in a boat off the golf coast(about 15 miles out), you couldn't see the bottom, it just looked black. we were just sitting there, i was laying over the bow just staring into the water, after about 30 seconds i started hyperfocusing on it, and shortly there after had a panic attack followed by hyperventalation.

it scared me to death, for some reason. I also have that fear while actually being /in/ deep water, specifically in oceans, something about being in that big nothingness, surrounded by darkness. it scares the shit out of me.

Darkfall scares me. It seems so dismal, not having any motivation in the game. Without the ability to go up levels, it's purely depressing. You can't get to the max level, so there's really no goal. Unless you max every skill out, but that'd take too much grinding. Grinding sucks, that's why I'm sticking to WoW. I can't even sleep at night thinking about the utter lack of any greater purpose in Darkfall.

Not too much. I used to be afraid of ghosts when i was younger, usually after watching horror movies or reading threads about people posting their personal (or friend/relative's) experiences, which were quite realistic. But i soon conquered that fear by randomly yelling at them when i'm alone in the house.

I do have this strange occasional fear of getting blindsided by a vehicle making a turn when crossing the street at an intersection. Which is odd, because i've never had any close calls, just an unexplainable paranoia.

I used to be afraid of swimming in pools in fear of crocadiles or sharks.

Ghosts.

Or getting hit and killed by a drunk driver, like you coming home from a night out, and BAM. Statistics are pretty scary, only a matter of time.

Or being a part of any major tragedy. School shooting, terroist attack, airplane crash, random act of violence, take your pick.

I guess some of those can be rational.

Water in my face - I've almost drowned about 4 times. Each time someone had to jump in and get me to safety. Even standing in the shower the fear hits me the second water gets in my face.

Needles - When I was born I had jaundice and had a full blood transfusion. When I was allowed to come home my mother said my heels looked like hamburger, I still have the scars on my heels. I believe that is the start of my needle fear. I've always hated needles, I can't even watch them on tv, it just freaks me out.

Heights - I really do not like heights, even in movies or video games it'll get me. My father has the same fear, and he was a pilot, and I love flying too, but put us on a ladder and we are not happy.

Luckily i seem to have a high resistance to insect venom, or i just happen to run across weak venom varieties, none of the bites/stings needed treatment, just slight swelling.
