What is your definition of mouselook?
Mine is
Mouselook - Using the mouse to perspective of view in game.
or simplified for lame people
Mouselook - Using the mouse to look
Keyword being mouse, and look
It seems in IRC, many people are under the false impression (along with Gianna)
Mouselook = Locked perspective in relation to your character.
When in fact
Locked Third person - Your perspective of view is locked to a third person point of view. It implies a degree of rules and guidelines determined by the programmer.
In DFO this is used to describe - You are locked in third person, and your camera is also locked in relation to your avatar.
Locked First person - Same as above but first person.
So. If you turn mouselook off ... Mouselook = Using the mouse interface technology to manipulate your camera.
You are forced to use the keyboard. If there was no mouse in DFO, and you were forced to use the keyboard. BUT there was no locked third person. You would be able to freely manipulate the camera using preset keys such as 'rotate camera left' 'rotate camera right'. This strictly refers to your camera and not your character. 'turn left' Makes your character turn left. Because of ease, most people will want their camera to turn left with their character. This has become common in games, and the two are directly related.
So in darkfall, your mouse is directly related to your manipulation of camera. You always use your mouse to look, but never to against the parameters set by the 'locked perspective'.
Notice how, mouselook has the same two root words in the definition ... Using the mouse, to look.... Its really simple, yet so many people have failed to grasp the meaning.
In the 2nd part of gianna's review, the game is being described as having no mouselook. Which is completly off. What she is describing as mouselook is actually Locked third person, or Locked first person (not being able to turn your camera without turning your character)
