Crafting: Will you buy your materials or gather them?

This question goes out to all those planning to be a crafter of any type.

Will you buy your materials and why?

Will you gather your own materials and why?

Do you think you will be making the best equipment only? From what I've read you will be exchanging equipment alot. Do people really have the time or money to be wearing the best all the time?

In my opinion it would be more efficient to buy your materials as a crafter. You might take a cut in your earnings but, you will be making more money over all because you have more time to craft your items. This will also open up another market in the gathering of materials which will create many more jobs than there would be if everyone gathered their own materials.

Ofcoarse i don't mean that you will buy your materials when you first start the trade as you will probably not have the equity to do so. Some of you may need to gather your materials in the beginning until you have the equity to purchase materials.

Depends what and how much I need. I'd rather gather it my self, but if I only need a small amount I'll probably just buy it to save time.

Well, I'm not going to be a pure crafter so I will likely just gather stuff useful to my craft as I explore, occasionally planning my adventures more carefully and purposely seeking out certain ingredients. :D

IMHO the best resources will only be gather-able. Such as the stuff the make Ghost Claws and other Racial weapons.

Normal equipment will be easy to come by and so will the materials. This seems like the type of game where you won't be purchasing alot of the best equipment. I will likely purchase good equipment but, not the best when I'm shopping around. Why spend a bunch of money on several sets of the highest quality when you can get good quality for much less.

i'll do both, usually i gather to get a bunch done, then i buy if i need a few more to achieve a skill point goal (like if i hit 19 and want 20) or to make a specific item (now that i've reached 20) that i couldnt before.

I will harvest my own raw materials. I've never been big on paying someone else to do my dirty work.

Depends on the things I need to buy. If they are being sold for a ridiculous price then yes I will farm my own mats. But if its not a stupid price then I will buy it from the person selling.

I wont be making the best equipment only, because since gear doesn't make much of a difference, Many people will want medium-cheap gear so they don't waste money. Smarter to make more cheaper gear then more expensive.

My personal plan is to get situated into the world with my clan and then ill probably do nothing but gather for a week or so, then once i buy myself out of villein status I will go on to gather enough resources to begin my trade skills.
After making money from what I dug up myself, ill then start trying to buy my materials, rather than gather them myself.

Likely a bit of both. I plan to sell a great deal of what I gather though. I business partner and I usually set up a resource/material gathering business in MMORPGs. I am really looking forward to this aspect in DFO with full PvP. :D

Harvesting is just too boring for me.

I would probably do both. If I'm short on time for something, I would buy the materials and if I'm low on money, I would gather my own materials.

Gather. I want to have the thrill of being in danger even when chopping wood instead of sitting right outside the field of view of a wild pig.

Good plan. It reduces the effectiveness of gold farmers, which is always good.

But it also raises the price of resources. That should make gear more expensive. This in turn makes crafters richer. That of course is all premised on Darkfall having economics that make sense. Please, please, please Aventurine don't allow resources needed to make gear to be more expensive than the finished gear.

I usually don't craft much, but what i craft come from what i gather. I like very much to gather, i hope there is enough in that domain because i just like to wander.
