View Full Version : Help: FPS problems.
I don't know what's wrong with me, lately on my two FPS online games I play.
Which would be, Planetside and America's Army. But I'm sucking, terribly.
I have an ok computer, like a maxed out Emachine. I use WSAD to move around and the mouse to look around, left to shoot. You know the drill.
But something is wrong with me, Im not killing anyone, when I go one on one I get owned so badly it's not even funny. It's pathetic. So I thought this thread would help me.
Give me some HELPFUL posts on how your controls on FPS games are [Computer FPS, not console., do you keep your back straight. Do you have some other helpful control buttons than the usual WSAD style? How do you make it where you can react, aim and fire quickly before the enemy does.
I don't know, maybe I'm just starting to lose it.

You're getting old.
Wasd + mouse. Point and click. Simple.
You're getting old.
I'm not that old.

Aim for the head! Not the flying elephants. You can't hit those.. because they fly.. reaaaalllyy high.
I pretty much use the same controls.. I guess you just need to practice to get the touch back.

Just play it intuitively, special controls or macro keyboards are bullshit.
If you can't win, keep training against better opponents to improve your combat skills.
Rinse repeat untill you finally kill someone !

Stop faping with the right hand while playing, keep that hand on the mouse.

when i find my reactions are just a bit too slow i hype myself up it seems to work, it also results in a mouse glitch where you end up spinning in circles and looking up though.

Some people naturally suck at FPS games, just like any other game.

My computer is really nice compared to the average with a wide screen LCD; my mouse is a G5(v.2).
I'm not saying getting new things would radically turn your around and allow you to dominate. I myself fall into that category of natural sucker at FPS. I'll admit I die more then I kill most of the time and it's not a bad/good day thing it's practically most of the time though it depends really. I don't have any shame because of it.
I mean I'm more of a team helper on offense/defense then actually being the 100 kills/5 deaths type of person, if you know what I mean. Frankly it's odd because I can play for MANY hours on end but you know I'd rather play something like CTF, base assault or something then TDM/DM.
BUT I will say I have notice I do better then I used to so in some ways so your gonna notice SOME improvements.
....and while I have never played Planetside and sadly I've read it was an AWESOME game before one of the booster packs. I will say something that I've read a lot and from videos the people tend to not die as fast as other games sorta like CSS they got a lot of armor and a lot of health depending on implants/suits/etc.etc.
As for AA TBH I never really liked it for some reason. Just not my game but it is odd you can't kill anyone in it people tend to die pretty quickly in it.
I should point out there's a scale of FPS gamers. Short memory FPS they will keep dying in the same spot time and time again. There's long term memory where they know every little place people go to. There's the I only use this gun because I suck with any other. What I'm trying to say is change things around maybe your a sharpshooter or a assault rifle user or SMG users or shotgun user. Whatever it is change it around till your find your place, maybe that's the problem.

That guy is me, and he's also the reason your team doesn't get backed into a corner getting slaughtered within 5 seconds of spawn. COD 4 players should be familiar with this phenomenon.

I have an ok computer, like a maxed out Emachine.
I have an okay gun, like a finger with a rubberband.

Be a nerd!
Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete, bring up the task manager
Delete all unessecary (spelling) tasks and right click on the game you are playing's process
Increase its priority to maximum and see if this has any effect

You are officially a noob at FPS games all over again. Play UT 2004 instagib CTF, it's about the noobiest FPS there is.
Note that I am also a noob at FPS games and so that's all I play, so this post is not an insult.

i'm going to be nice for just a moment here...
take two strings or something and cross them via the diagonals on your monitor...where they intersect is the center of your screen, place a tiny dot there and remove the strings
this is where your crosshair will always be, the physical dot will keep your eyes in the crosshair rather than straying while shooting...
best tip i can give you besides checking your settings/ping times to server

Most important rule. DONT RUSH IN! Also always let the enemy come to you, the one waiting has the advantage.

Try and move while aiming. Hard to start off with but gets easier, and makes it harder for them to get you.
Or know your map and get to a good vantage point.

Yep, aim for the head in bursts, learn to strafe shoot. Think smarter. Should do it.

This is true. When I'm on a roll, I'm really on a roll. I feel like nothing can kill me. Like I can walk into any firefight without cover or care and still kill every single one of the fuckers. And it usually works out that way too when I feel like that.

Aiming on the move is easier for me than aiming while standing still, because you can make small adjustments to your aim by walking around.
