View Full Version : Should Southpark do Darkfall?

I was just thinking about that great episode of Southpark, 'Make Love, Not Warcraft,' and got to wondering if Darkfall will ever reach that level of popular culture, and whether that would be a good or bad thing.
So who would like to see that?

I would! I love the episode with Wow :lmao:

They did wow because it's a joke in itself, how can they make a satirical episode about a badass game?

Don't really care tbh.

Through reading this forum...
They only do each pop culture reference episode once, it wouldn't happen.

They did World of Warcraft because World of Warcraft was entering a "Fad", stage. Unless Darkfall became amazingly popular throughout the world South Park would have no reason to make a Darkfall episode.
Honestly, due to the fact that I have not seen Darkfall anywhere except on the Darkfall forums, I highly doubt a Darkfall South Park episode will ever happen.
Edit: Also, South Park was making fun of the MMO culture in that episode, making another MMO episode would only be redundant.

"Make love not warcraft" was one of the worst episodes ever. I've come to conclusion that people who do not usually watch south park only watch that episode and therefor think it's really good. But no episodes past season 9 are worth watching. They've run out of ideas, there's nothing new anymore.

lol would be funny as hell. Stan Kyle and Kenny would be playing DF and Cartman would be a Vapor troll trying to prove DarkFall isn't real even though there are people playing it lol. Or hell even have Stan Kyle and Kenny in DF beta under NDA and Cartman be a Vapor Troll and Kyle gets pissed because he can't tell Cartman about it because of the NDA, at the end Kyle breaks down and tells him about it shows screen shots and a vid, Cartman turns around and reports him and gets him banned from the beta.
But yeah lol I would like to see Sout Park do a DarkFall lol.

what do you base that off? tbh the first season was pretty shit, your just one of those annoying people who think its cool to like the older stuff before it got popular

Probably you're one of those annoying people who think that those annoying people who think it's cool to like the older stuff before it got popular just like the older stuff before it got popular because it's cool - BUT IT'S NOT. IT'S PROBABLY THE TRUTH.
(In case this sentence does not make any sense, I don't care. I had a hard time understanding and writing it myself.)

Nah, south park took the piss out of WoW (to an extent) and doing two MMO episodes would be useless. However they have done multiple religions, so it's possible :P

obviously they wouldn't do it any time soon...
but IF (very unlikely) DF got insanely popular, (like zomg 10mil+ popular) i could see them doing DF... and it would be funny
i just don't know if there are 10mil mmorpgamers that like the prospect of full loot and full pvp...
it depends though, if DF does pve and crafting as well as they think they have, the game will attract ppl that bite at pvp, but still want to help teh cause etc...
we'll have to wait and see

Won't happen. Out of the millions playing WoW and its many clones, very few are actually 'gamers'. Most only own one or two games, and only one MMO, and are perfectly content with it having as much depth to it as reality TV.
They play to relax and be mindless, to feel good about themselves. DF would create a possibility for stress. They aren't looking for that possibility.

This.
We all know Darkfall will never get insanely popular. I'd be very suprised if we managed 2 million if Darkfall is what it promises. I don't want the game to be that popular to be honest.

yah, that's why i said (very unlikely)
but, if you had asked the MMO community 10 years ago, whether any MMO would get 11mil+ subscriptions... they would have likely said it would never happen
i can't predict the future, so i won't say it will never happen...
imo, right now it seems very unlikely, but to say it will never happen...
/shrug
meh, who knows what ppl will want several years down the road... maybe there will be a mass awakening... i can't predict the future =p
i don't know why DF being insanely popular is necessarily a bad thing...
the more money they have, the better their Customer service, the larger there team, the quicker we get new content, and the quicker problems get fixed etc...
i suppose if the game gets too popular, there is the possibility that they might carebearize it... but imo, this is much less likely than if the game was not very popular at all. ie. If they aren't making enough money, they will be more likely to retool core mechanics to try and attract new blood, than if they are rolling in cash.
but both these things require predictions of what the DF devs may do in the future.... and i have no clue in hell because my crystal ball is busted
imo, ppl tend not to completely flip flop on core held beliefs unless something is pushing them very hard...
i understand the fear though, [assuming safe zone carebears make up 2% of the DF population (completely arbitrary number)]:
2% of 200,000 = 4,000.... unlikely they change anything based on a measly 4k subs
2% of 10mil = 200,000.... they might create a carebear server to keep 200,000subs in-game.
so while the % remains the same, the $$ that is pushing them changes drastically.
i still think that DF as intended would be a better game if the devs were pulling in 2mil+ subs... assuming they re-invest that money back into the game, with the bulk of the improvements targeting the 98% crowd that enjoy the game as intended.

Me neither.
Then we would get way to many whiners wanting safe zones and trying to change the fundaments of df.
Df will be for every1 who enjoys real pvp and pve.
Wow etc will be for "carebears" that like "special/safe" pvp and pve.
Anyway southpark kinda bashed WOW.
And they cant do that as much with df as it isnt as mindless as wow.

We all know Southpark won't do another MMO episode unless Darkfall crushes WoW and the chances of that very, very thin. Thus, the more appropriate question is: what the hell will Yahtzee make of DF?

It would be easier to do one about the forum community waiting as the evil devs dangle the proverbial carrot in front of them....

I'd like to see it, but I wouldn't say they "should" do it. You don't quality for South Park status until about 6 million people know of your existence.

I can't understand why so many people don't realize that this game is niche game.
Everyone who has posted on these forums for more than a day should know this by now AND want this.
If the game starts making boat loads of money then it will become all about the money. The best way to make a lot of money is through wide appeal, which, when it comes to MMOs, is basically WoW.
This game will (thankfully) never have the wide appeal of WoW.
Now, don't get me wrong, I played a lot of WoW and enjoyed it and, despite the general sentiment on this board, don't despise it with every molecule of my body, but I want something different and I hope this game doesn't end up the same.

Sure, if it's raising hype for the game.
I don't think it would be as funny as the World of Warcraft one, but they could probably find a way to make it humorous somehow. With all Darkfall's features, there's bound to be a way.

Yes, as long it's funny.
im sure full loot and ffa pvp could make for some entertaining 'omg wtf??' carebear moments.

Would be funny enough to just have darkfall mentioned, something along the lines of
-"Wow your taking longer than Darkfall did"
-"What?"
-"What."
-"What the hell is darkfall"
-"...."
