Not much to it. What programs do you consider "must haves"? (Legal links appreciated)
For me...
Dropbox (http://www.getdropbox.com) Syncs shit
Google Chrome (http://www.google.com/chrome) Browses shit
Autohotkey (http://www.autohotkey.com/download/) Customizes shit
CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/download) Cleans shit
I have a lot more software that I really like, but these are the ones I'm constantly telling people about, so what's yours?

Nothing beats Firefox still. With NoScript and Addblock Plus enabled, it beats everything hands down. And with IE Tab, you have no reason to ever use IE.
Mcafee + spybot, along with Firefox, and nothin' will happen to your PC.
I find Xplorer2 to version 1.6 to be very useful as well.
Also Pidgin is great, because you can put all messengers in one program.
Better than Trillian.
Ventrilo is better than TS, too.
Vuze works great with Pirate Bay.
AnyDVD + 1Click DVD Copy Pro for any movie burning.
PowerISO, Alcohol 120%, Magic ISO...

I agree with the VLC media player.
VLC is awesome, but for high-quality videos I used Media Player Classic, it seems to play them where vlc is struggling.

Firefox
Antivir + Comodo
Spybot for Immunity
Media Monkey
Azureus
Alcohol 52%
Winrar
Nero 8 < Burning ROM and Express Only >
Power DVD
AutoGK
DVD Decrypter
And most IMPORTANT: Acronis TRUE Image
Use many others but these are my essentials.
And OMG, Limewire!!!! No way Id ever touch that.
Ive heard many say VLC is best. I just use Vista Codec package and Power DVD for all my AVI's. Maybe i missed settings in VLC somewhere .. but the picture quality didnt look all that good to me.
Was decent, just not like I thought it should be rather.

Riva fucking Tuner, tunes your shitty GPU. If it wasn't for that program, my computer would be unable to play almost any game made the last 5 years at least without overheating and crashing.

Although it does decode basically everything, the overheads for doing so frequently produce jitters in the picture. Most of the time it isn't very noticable and it's the sort of thing you'd excuse as a hiccup in watching a movie on a PC, but when using Totem, or any number of other codec-driven media players in Windows, the picture is much more crisp and fluid.
While I intend to keep VLC to watch random things I download, more conventional media players perform quite a bit better.

word up. this guy knows, just like me.
Rivatuner makes your gpu peform like the bitch you needed it to be, spending that kind of money on a piece of soddered circuitboard. Best driver manipulator ever.

Maya
Photoshop
Alcohol
WinRar
I might have to try firefox 3 as IE8 is a crock of shit...
@OP, AutoHotkey is the retarded little brother of AutoIt, which is better developed, and easier to use. It's also easier to embed, and extend, so AutoHotkey kinda fails all around.
That's all. :)

Daemon Tools (http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/announcements.php), very useful for a lot of things and handy if you don't feel like swapping CDs all the time.

Never tried autoit... The main thing I use autohotkey for is changing around keybindings to get around crappy software, for every day use as well as in games. Does Autoit do this better? I almost never use it for automation unless I'm copying data into a spreadsheet or something.
Oh and I love my qwerty to dvorak script on my flash drive!
