Just out of curiosity how many of you would pay to play beta, and how much would yall be willing to spend?
EDIT: Assuming Aventurine offered it.

I'd pay nothing. Ive beta tested every recent major MMORPG free and in the end I feel like i should be the one that should have gotten paid lol.

I seem to be paying full retail for betas all the time... :D
However, no, I would not pay for beta unless it was in the area of $10 that would go towards the purchase of the game after release, akin to reserving a copy in store.
Other than that, no, I don't believe in paying for beta, as beta players provide a valuable service to the developer.
Paying for something the developers finds not fit to release? I think not.

none, why are people so desperate to drag the integrity of the MMO community through the mud? too many of us buy into unfinished products, and it damages the market in the long run, think of how many people quit MMO's after AoC divebombed, and that was a fair share of Darkfall's targeted playerbase.

If I had a beta account I would be playing Beta not posting on the forums. I would be the type to pay $10-$20 bucks. I figure we got at least a month before the game comes out and thats the price of monthly subscription. From the beta quotes the game seems extremely fun, despite the wipes. Furthermore you could learn what you want to do, delete/recreate and try out all the races etc.

Yea Darkfall could still be just as bad as AOC only with a more dated graphics engine, even poorer communication with fans and a longer development time.
Those quotes mean nothing to me since they have no names and were posted by tasos. I mean it was cool to read them, but we need to play and see how good the game is for ourselves before paying anything.

ok i'd pay about $300 for a starcraft II: wings of liberty closed/early beta invite

This.
After Beta Testing WotLK and WAR, I felt pretty sure I offered more advice and insight on the games than their own developers. I deserve a paycheck.

Umbvir
11-19-2008, 11:20 PM
lol I would, 10 dollars would be perfectly fine for at least a couple weeks....hell everyone who downloads betas from fileplanet and similar places does the exact same thing. Theres alot worse things you've spent 10 bucks on lol, so way I see it since Im going to eventually waste it somewhere anyways....might as well be something at least a little bit worth it
There are some people who either want to see it so badly or help make it better so badly theyd do it...and more lol. Its alot better than most of the BS ppl do anyways with all the stupid flaming trolling vapor this and that and everything to that matter :p

I would pay like 20$ to get into beta and of course also have 20$ taken off the cost of purchasing the game when its out in 2012, if only to show my support for the 7 years of pain and agony i've gone through in recruiting people to check this game out. However, I'm not a big fan of playing unfinished games. Alll it does is make me want to exploit the shit out of the AI, skill process, find bugs, figure out if running macro's will work(FUCK the Grind!) etc.

I would pay around half the retail price for beta. I have been waiting for this game for a long time and I know quite a few of you would also pay 'extra' to get an early peek at the game.
By getting to play the game before release you obtain some perks such as:
1) You have the upper hand knowing more about the game before the rest of the competition does.
2) You may possibly get to keep your character/skills/ after release.
3) If the game is terrible and not for you, you saved 50% because you arent going to buy the finished product.
Those saying you would never pay a dime for the beta are either
A) underrage and jobless
B) full of sh*t
C) More patient than I and many other people in this world are.

I don't know why most of you are so against paying to play in the beta. If we are still to believe that the game is only a few (less than 3) weeks behind schedule and they had planned on a late December release it must mean the game is pretty Fcking polished by now. Is playing a game with a few glitches (from what has been said) that terrible? Honestly, I would play $10 no problem even if it wasn't deducted from the cost of the finished game.
Thinkharder
11-19-2008, 11:45 PM
I would not pay to test a game, no. If anything you should be paid to test. I think anyone who would pay just wants to play and not actually test the game.
I would, however, buy the game now if it gave me access to the beta as I would be buying the game anyway.

Im not against paying the money... I am against the bad publicity that it would bring. Hell I would slap a $100 down flat. It would be real simple. BUt I hope they never go that route.... It smells ... It smells real bad. It smells of desperation.

Aventurine know they have a solid product and therefore don't need to bribe us into paying for a pre-order beta like most of the other money grabbing companies out there.

11-20-2008, 05:11 AM
Paid beta access would put a huge dent into the companys credebility,so lets hope that never happens, but I'd be up for something like an extended pre-order thing, like paying 10 bucks for beta access and then getting the same amount off as a discount for ordering the full game at release. I don't think that would come off quite as bad as its essentially like the pre-order beta access stuff everyone else allready does.

don't get me wrong, i want to be in Beta... but i won't bust the piggy bank over it. a nominal fee perhaps. Like a 'donation' for a product deemed worthy.
now if the game was finished, and this was some sort of 'preview' thing b4 the game went live... maybe i'd pay $5-$10 for a 3-4week edge.
but... if you're asking if i'd pay, after peeps have been accepted for freesauce.
perhaps some nominal amount if beta was guaranteed to last 3+ weeks.
$5.
the concept of paying to play an mmorpg isn't new =p, whether it is called Closed Beta or preview week, or release week, doesn't really change much in terms of bugs/client etc.

To be honest I am an extremely impulsive person so I would probably take the 500$ I have been saving up for computer upgrades and give it all away to be a Beta tester assuming that also covered the game cost and the first month of retail play.
-Edit I would also like to point out that I personally think retail is a good 3 months away. If there was enough evidence to support a 2008 release I would pay quite a bit less. Probably like 100$ if I had to.
Also I would only pay this much if there were few content restrictions and very few wipes.
DaveDFF

Yes of course. Monthly fees for MMOs are probably the best value ever for anyone who like a drink or two , a monthly MMO subscription is about Half an hour out with friends as against 140+ hrs per month.
So if DFO interests me and it i something I have time for then yes I will pay.
But that is a choice, no one is actually forcing anyone to do anything here.
