This is just a follow-up from my thread last week
http://forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php?t=77250&highlight=Cyle

Anyways, this is what I bought:

It's a Samsung 40" Flat Panel LCD 1080p (model 630). 4ms response time, 120hz, and much more.

I also bought an Xbox 360 Elite while I was there, but that's not on the topic.

I chose the 630 because it was the cheapest model with the 120hz and the 4ms response time. Yeah the 650 and 750 had the better native ratios, but I figured the 40,000:1 dynamic ratio would be good enough. 40" was the biggest I felt was suitable for my family room, plus you lose a little picture quality with bigger sizes.

I got the TV for $1,250 and the Xbox for $250. They knocked the prices down due to HH Gregg prices across the street. I brought in sticker prices for the TV and the Best Buy salesman offered me $100 less than the HH Gregg price for each item, plus I got a rebate so my prices came down to what I just mentioned. I think I got a deal, if you think not, please tell me why because this is the first time I've bought items like these and I wouldn't mind knowing how to get better deals.

So far, the TV is fucking amazing. The standard settings were a little iffy, but I've been tweaking them for Gears of War 2, my HD Sports channels and movies, and my regular TV shows. I think I've got good settings for each but they may still require some work to get just right. I like how one button can switch my custom settings from one to another. Watching sports so far has been great, I love football in HD. There's a little trail in movement on non HD channels but the quality is crystal clear, im thinking if I turn up the Automotion feature it will fix this, but the Automotion feature makes gaming blurry.

Hooked up to my housemate's surround sound, Gears of War 2 has never been more fun. Just finished the campaign on Insane - what a blast.

Anyways, lemme know what kind of setups you guys have, and what you think of them and mine. Thanks.

Man those have really come down. I bought a 42 inch toshiba 1080p lcd 2 years ago for 2,200 and that was after multiple discounts. I've certainly gotten 2 years worth of mileage out of it though, and it has kicked ass. Sounds like you got a deal to me though, enjoy.

Yeah, we just got a 42" 1080p LG a few weeks ago, and it matches my ps3 nicely.

Enjoy it whilst its new, because sooner or later it seems to shrink as you get used to it

Big tv's are nice, no two ways.

I was thinking about getting the PS3, mainly for the blue ray, but I don't play any games on the PS3 and I don't watch too many movies - mainly games and HD sports, so no point in getting the PS3, so I went with the Xbox 360 Elite.

But yeah I figure the TV will get old but I'm just warming up to it, hard to remember it's actually MINE

I bought a 42" plasma instead of LCD. I don't game much on it though.

Black / contrast etc is so much better than on LCD.

Don't plasmas have a worse viewable angle and are more likely to wear out? Also potentially get burn-in from video games? The market seems to be shifting to LCD. And to the OP, i got a PS3 mainly for the blu-ray, and it's pretty damn sweet. Especially pixar animated type movies.

Plasma's have a better viewing angle than LCDs and although image retention does exist, burn-in really isnt a problem anymore.

On another note, you don't really need 1080p until you are larger than 42".

Eh?
Do you mean you prefer the franchises on the xbox over franchises on the ps3?

Because otherwise that sentence doesn't make sense to me :)

No, not the franchises. I love Square-Enix, I love Resident Evil, and MGS. Problem is, I don't play them as actively as I do Call of Duty, Halo 3, Gears of War 2, Fable 2, Fallout 3, etc.

It's the specific games that have attracted me more to the 360.

Lol, i'm just saying, its the way you said it.

"I don't play ps3 games as much as xbox games so I didn't get a ps3."
