So what's new? Their whole government is on cartels' payroll. Those who are not end up like that cop by the tree. Shit, if your business profits are in billions and comparable to major legal corporations, you'll have resources to pay off those who are willing or want to live, and kill those who refuse.

So, my cousin went to Mexico to join the Mexican revolution. He got robbed at machete-point by a group of Mexicans and was held ransom to his parents for more money.

If the story is true, it was probably the Zetas that did it.

Zetas don't run around with machetes and don't kidnap common tourists. They are highly trained former cops, feds and special forces who deal with exactly same kind of people, cops, feds and officials.

On one hand I feel sorry for them, on the other, shame on them for refusing to clean themselves up. They better do it soon tho before it spills over into the streets here, we invaded for far less before, and it's possible that we may not leave nextime.

They refuse to clean up? How the fuck do you expect them to clean up when most likely half of their cabinet is on cartels' payroll. How the hell do you expect to clean up a country when the whole administration, from the street cop to the president's cabinet, is infested with corrupt and paid off officials?

well...the real way to begin fixing the problem woudl probably start with repealing Prohibition
it's the under the table profits from the black market that fuels these cartels...just like it did the bootleggers all those years ago...
you want to break their power, start with their money, imo

I hear they are decriminalizing small amounts of coke, weed and meth. Are they on the right track then?
I agree with you though. You can't stop drug cartels unless you take away their source of profit, which are ILLEGAL drugs.
It's also amusing to hear than in the past 35 years US has sent over $500 billion in drug fighting aid to Mexico when the actual numbers of profits that those cartels have made and continue to make since those 35 years is well beyond $500billion.
