Immortal Technique is ok. He's a batshit insane fucking Che Guevara loving socialist, and he should shut the fuck up about the "streets". He went to college and was thrown in jail for hitting some white kid so now he thinks he's all hard, but the flow is ok and his beats are usually good.

It isn't getting any better, it is completely berift of any originality and my god it all sounds the fucking same.

Immortal technique is great
the roots are great (gotta represent philly here)
2pac is good and so is B.I.G.
And T.I. is okay, not sure about his new album.

Kanye sucks... alot... so does lil' wayne.
50 cent is a little better than them, but only marginally (his debut, power of the dollar was really good).

and I'm trying to think of others that I have in my itunes library...

Oh yeah, and Eminem has a few very good albums.

As far as American hip hop/rap goes, the only artists I actually enjoy listening to beyond the clubs and parties are Mos Def, Immortal Technique, Nas and Tha Dogg Pound/Snoop. I could list a bunch of other various hip hop artists but I'd lie if I said that I actually respect them and find them talented. But then again, I don't really get my groove on with ladies in rock clubs/pubs and there are few locations that play good House/DnB/Trance, so that leaves me with mostly hip hop oriented clubs/parties.

For the rap critiques: rap is song meets poetry to a dance beat. Very few people are talented enough to properly write poetry. I do agree that most rap is complete shit though, but this is most music too.

The only rap worth listening to is the straight up smack a ho gangsta style raps of an Eazy-E, E-40, Too Short, Mac Dre, or Andre Nickatina. Rappers that try to go for substance generally end up looking foolish, as rap is an ignorant ass style, not suited for brain matter.
