keep missing claus, I still want to know more about this 'training every skill in the game'... seems if so there will be no character templates.. just right equipment for the job.... :(

"There's no 'endgame' in darkfall..." That has to be the best quote ever. I'm so tired of hearing people talk about the "endgame" as if they even know what they're talking about. MMORPG's aren't supposed to have "endgames" that defeats the whole point of making them "persistent."

Short of the new site being up, it's nice to see a little love from the devs in IRC. :)

[09:27] Claus|Dev> well maxing out all skills and spells will take you forever
[09:27] Claus|Dev> but thats not even the point
[09:27] Claus|Dev> this game isnt all about leveling..
[09:27] Claus|Dev> its about having fun doing other stuff

[09:31] Claus|Dev> well, there is no "endgame" in darkfall
[09:32] Claus|Dev> meaning eendgame as seen in other games
[09:32] Claus|Dev> you DONT have to level up for months to have fun

If I lived near Claus, I'd take him out to a titty bar and I'd buy his beer just for him having the right mindset. Those above quotes gave me a stiffy hard enough to wrap a flag around.

Marry me, Claus. ;)

Yeah I look forward to a game with an ever changing nature. One where there isnt an "endgame" as that automatically implies there is an end to the game.

I think thats where a skill based system is vastly superior to a cookie cutter "class" system. As time moves on your character can move on with you that is develop new skills and lose old ones as your interests change (just like the real world).

Where as "class" based games you are stuck forever playing Ivan the Black Scout extrodinaire, or Merlin the Magician no real way to go back except to reroll entirely losing your reputation, social groupings etc.

That'd be The Combine video. On August 30th 2003, Deyth, of the guild "The Combine", visited RazorWax/Aventurine offices and with a hand-cam, he took a 21 second long video shot. It was of two monitors, the first was a small human village with some buildings in a field of grass that was moving with the wind and some nice fog effects in the background, the second monitor showed a medium sized boat rocking around on the ocean waves.

The actual article can still be found here (http://www.the-combine.net/ArticleViewer.aspx?ArticleNo=250), however, the page with the video and other pictures he took has been gone for a few months. I guess you could try emailing them and see if they'll send you a zip of all the visual stuff, or possibly they'll fix the link to the page.

yea kinda short there, He useualy chats a bit and always says good bye. Maybe the nature of the questions, maybe he is more frustrated by the troubles of the latest build than we are. Its just a game for us, for these guys its thier job, got to be frustrating when things dont work the way you hoped.

Vulpes
03-14-2004, 06:06 AM
nah, he did say good bye etc, just i only inserted the time he entered and left is all and edited away the rest of the communication so spotlight would be focused on the questions. So an error by the editor aka me if this is how you interpreted it.
Just that it is easier, read an edited chatlog, then a complete one with less coherent question-answer and not game question related stuff.

Did a little investigating on their site and found links to the Dark Fall pics and the video.

Pic page is located at: http://www.the-combine.net/PicGallery.aspx...le=Darkfall%201 (http://www.the-combine.net/PicGallery.aspx?PicGroupNo=4&Title=Darkfall%201)

Video is located at: http://www.the-combine.net/MediaPlayer.asp...ot;_blank" (http://www.the-combine.net/MediaPlayer.asp?src=/Pics/00000310.avi"%20target="_blank")

Enjoy :D

I haven't seen that grass vid since it was first posted. I forgot how much movement there can be in a field. Most games the grass and water looks as though it's been frozen in time. This will make scanning for moment more difficult and raids a lot of fun.

umph i dont mean do be a biatch the grass and eveythin looked greatits just that the water seemed quite continuous and loopy not really alive... but its probably fairly hard making water look authentic so im not judging or complaining... nice job devs! gogogo
