My dog got sprayed by a skunk last night... and then she got in the house and now my whole house smells really strongly of skunk.
Concentrated skunk smell is not anything like it smells when you smell it on the road.
first off it burns you nose and hurts your eyes and it smells like burnt rubber really bad.
anyone know how to get the smell out?

Use butyric acid.

I'm allergic to skunk smell. I am pretty sure I would be dead if it was me in your place.

Start throwing tomatoes on the walls. Supposedly, they neutralize the smell.

But attract other skunks? ^^

you get another skunk to spray your house.. the smell will be so bad that it implodes, you and the skunk. Then you get a battle axe and fight the skunk in a time warp. But its hard to hit it because you just keep spinning, and spinning, and spinning

Maybe the other way round. Dog fell unconscious because of the smell and got taken.

So would any skunk if you raised and it would spray the neighborhood cats or something constantly so the neighbors would try to move and you could buy their homes cheaply. Plan?

Give her a bath in a mixture of tomato soup and oatmeal diluted. Throw in some baking soda also. Will get the smell out.

since any1 here is a jackass and wont give you real advices...
my cat got sprayed last month.. probably thought it was another cat, he's not real bright.
it took many baths and luckily this one wasnt too fiesty.
anyway, here's what you'll need depending on the size of your dog
at least
2 gallons of white vinegar possibly up to 4
2 lbs of arm and hammer baking soda , possibly up to 4 again
1 bottle of your favorite shampoo for your dog
wet your dog, shampoo it, rub in the baking soda while the shampoo is on him and rince with the white vinegar
should take 2-3 tries .. do it until it doesnt smell .. there's gonna be a faint leftover smell .. that should go away in about 4 days but it wont stink up your house and you wont notice it unless you put your face in the dog's fur, really not as strong
avoid commercial sunk-off bs, it doesnt work

It snowed here 2 inches last night (Montana).
I LOVE SNOW !!!
:D
And more on-topic,
When I was a kid in 1st grade, right before I got onto the school bus to go to school, I was outside our house, and I got sprayed by a skunk. The school called my parents house 10 minutes after I got there, demanding my parents come pick me up.
good timez

Actually, what Biggs said does work. The acids in the tomato soup nutralizes the skunk spray as does the baking soda. Don't know what the oatmeal is for though, smell enhancer I would guess.
EDIT--That is epic Ammon, free day from school and a story to tell. doesn't get any better imo.

ive heard other things about the tomato soup.. sounded like a myth.. maybe the mythbusters should tell us what they think
i mean yea tomato soup is acid .. if you're gonna use an acid for cheap you might want to go for vinegar: stronger and cheaper.
plus it doesnt smell after you shampoo it. the tomato soup is gonna make your dog smell like old tomato soup .. thats not much of a win

It's to thicken up the stew.

Vinegar smells almost as bad as skunk spray. Tomato soup smells good. And it works.

Bingo. It helps to make it more paste like.

Did not know that. I learned something today. that'll come in handy next time my dog runs into a skunk. Thanks. :)
Got any cures for dog breath? I think there is a dead dear my dog keeps eating when I put her outside and she smells so bad I nearly die whenever she's in the room. :(

You can brush their teeth. There's a couple mint type dog treats you can buy at the pet store also. In my experience they don't work though since my dog swallows treats whole.

Yeah my dog used to have rat breath too (smells like a rat crawled up a drainpipe and died)
I used to brush his teeth, he was a crazy mutt, totally loved it and used to nip me when i stopped, would happily sit there having his teeth brushed, used to chse tennis balls and instead of stopping to pick it up would somersault and roll along with the ball....
damn shame he tried to play chicken with that 4X4, damn i miss that dog.....

Damn you get all the luck, I love the smell of skunk. (maybe because I use it as a cover scent while hunting, so the smell now makes me all nostalgic)

Only a matter of time before that happens to my dog... we had an electric fence but she learned that if she ran fast enough through the fence she wouldn't get shocked. We then fenced her up, but she in-turn dug up the yard and got out anyway...
She settled down with the running away after she wonder over to the elementary school down the road and got picked up by doggy police. She did not like spending the night at the pound.

Ya ok... I got the smell out of my dog... I bathed her in vinegar and baking soda... seemed to do the trick quite well...
Now its the house I am worried about.. its smells like a skunk den.
ugh.. all I can smell is skunk...
this sucks... but on the upside... I got the day off work..:D
I had to throw out all my carpets because they were the first thing she rubbed herself on.
she then jumped on the futon... so thats gone too.
I just threw out the clothes I was wearing as well.
ugh.

Yeah my dog spent a few nights at the pound as well, He ran away once and i thought i had lost him, got call from police a few days alter he was like 120 miles away and the chip in his neck had identified him when they scanned him.
he was really soft, cats used to scare the crap out of him, he would howl non stop when i was getting it on with my girlfriend and loved nothing more than staring at me with those sad puppy dog eyes when i came home from work as if to say 'Where have you been, abandoned me again??'

They make an electric fence system that shocks the dog the entire time it is not within the boundaries.

I would look into that but my dogs gotta be well over 7 years old (can't say for sure, we picked her up as a stray 6 years ago) and I'm worryied it might kill her to be contantly shocked untill she gets back to the yard. Though if it did kill her, Mippoose would be happy.

Nah the shock is no where near enough to kill, plus it only takes 1 or 2 times to teach the dog the lesson. My parents have one of these systems, and their dog is so trained to it that they dont even put new batteries in the collar.

about the breath:
My dog had really bad breath a year or so before we had to put her down, sometimes its because they get so old their teeth start rotting and it not only makes the breath stink bad but induces some toxins into the body making the dog sick.... Better to put her down than let her suffer.

Same dog im talking about above, we used to have a fence and it didnt effect her in the least, maybe it was because of her thick husky hair but she acted like she barely even felt a pinch everytime, even when we pumped it all the way up. ( i had made sure the prongs were touching her neck, maybe she was just one badass dog.)

I don't see any signs of suffering except when I leave the house. Then she looks like was abandoning her. She's getting lazy but that comes with the old age. other than that she seems perfectly healthy (not even joint problems). I'll think I'll try brushing her teeth and giving her doggy mint treats before youthenizing her:p. But thanks for the info I'll definately keep an eye on her.

Its not really a clean teeth problem, its an old age thing. Blue was really old though (about 15 people years) I kept her teeth clean by giving her bones and treats made to keep teeth clean but it wasnt a tartar problem or anything. And it wasnt regular stinky breath, you could kind of tell something was up, her breath was "rancid" is the only way to describe it.
I wasnt trying to tell you to put her down! :( Was just trying to make you aware of a possible problem. :D

Not Crest, or Aquafresh hehe.
Go to Petsmart. They'll have special dog toothpaste. They also have brushes that go on your finger so you can better feel the pressure and don't fuck up your dogs gums.
