You'll get skewed results from here.

There you go, although I wonder what you want all this for.

I noticed your age groups were like 18-25 and 25-40
I'm assuming that should have been 26-40

That's awful. It has errors like 25yo being in 2 age brackets and not specifying if it is daily or weekly or whatever you're asking for. Not to mention lots of missing game genres and no other choice. You wont get a meaningful result from that one even if you asked random people and everyone answered it.

Single typo and changing as we speak.

And name a game-genre I have missed please? :)

All the good old ones.
(Turn based) strategy, MMORTS, grand campaign strategy.. Could be merged with RTS into strategy.

Actual adventure games (no combat or action).

Dating sims and porn/hentai games unless you want those classified under the huge, diverging umbrella of simulation.

Arcade; almost any crap without saves and a that has a limited supply of lives. Games nowadays are too easy though and usually lets you start from the last checkpoint if you lose. But since it doesn't say much about the game except that it sucks, it could be omitted.

And a bunch of minor ones I guess, but those aren't usually mentioned. Quiz, hidden object f ex which could be merged into "other".

I'm sure there is a bunch more.

And I guess you could add more options under play style. Solo-sandbox f ex or simply non-story.

But then you have the problem, of having far too much options to get a quantitive response.

So it's either

a.) Categorize some things together (Eg Action + adventure games under the same, Hacknslash under fighting etc) and get a higher chance of finding relative data.

or

b.) Give every type of game it's own category and get less relative data.

I'd prefer action or adventure as an option over action adventure. The latter is offensive to me since it sucks and is just a glorified FPS with a storyline and very rarely any real puzzles or adventure.

Or give a page of ranting about how to answer it below so that if people bother doing it right, they can without guessing what the creator, other people taking it and the people reading the results would interpret it.

o.O Now you're just asking me to put your personal opinions into this.

Me and the 2 guys i'm doing this with in college sat there for 3 hours and found that there is about 20 or so different "Genres" if you wanna break it down like that. But the fact is YOU WONT GET decent data from that, too widespread.

Action Adventure has both action and adventure in it, your personal opinion about a game genre has no real matter to me, you're just another anonymous person who helped me in my college work.

After this, if i find that for example there is a large niche for say... RTS games (which it doesnt look like). I could create a further follow-on questionnaire asking about the best type of RTS etc, what elements the public want.

This is just to give me an overview of what the public look for in games, not to tell me the next game i'm making mate.

thanks for the +1 tho ;)

Then you're only going to get people who have no real opinion or little understanding of the genres or of the questionnaire to answer it. I guess that doesn't matter though since it's just for school and not for any actual use. I'm assuming the results would be mostly based on what it says on the box, and The options do match the categories you see at gamestop and such. And for all I know, the teacher has no clue about games to take such things into consideration.

The average forumfall user is probably quite a bit more experienced as a gamer than the gamestop crowd and would be capable to understanding more than the very broad genres on those lists which usually does not represent a game at all and is obvious by them having to but "/" on it since it is pretty often 2 or 3 genres listed for a game even though it is not an innovative game and could easily be described with one if they were more specific and more of them.
