One of them is CD Projekt.
They start off in 1994 as a software publishing company in Poland and specialise in computer games and educational software. After that they start publishing fully translated to Polish versions of hit games - an initiative i really admire and that was picked up in my country too.
In 2002 they open a new division with the goal of developing computer games - CD Projekt RED. Their first game is an unique RPG, based on Andrzej Sapkowski's Witcher series. I had read some of the books before and simply loved that game - as an adaptation and as an RPG (i was also lucky to have absolutely no crashes)
The game's reception was very diverse - some loved it, some hated it but overall it fared pretty well. It's main flaw was that it was unfinished - bugs, big loading times, limited character animations, clone NPCs, etc.
But unlike with many other games those problems weren't left unchecked and the money wasn't used for some new game. Patches were released, a custom scenario tool was made available for the public and an addictive Witcher-based flash game is in beta.
Half an year after launch an Enhanced Edition was announced - a more stable, polished version, offering an even better gameplay experience. And the best part - completely free for those who already have The Witcher.
And their most recent feat, the main reason i created this thread - the creation of GodOldGames.com (http://gog.com). A site that sells classic games, updated to work with newer Windows versions, free of any DRM.
They restored my faith in the game industry. I wish them all the best and i hope they stay faithful to their principles.
