According to everything official it is a shareware.
But it is still listed as a freeware on many places and probably millions of people use it.
As everyone know the program keeps running after the 40 day trial has passed. I wouldn't mind donating a few bucks to the company but whats your take on it all?
Do they perhaps want people to use the program anyway but hope some will buy the license? Do they plan to sue 1+ million people for not paying the license? Are they just stupid?
Is there any freeware .rar unpacker/packer?
Cheers.

I'm pretty sure this is is.
Honestly, I laughed after it asked me to buy it and I realised it made no difference to whether it would continue working or not.

You don't have to buy it. It is free, and continues to work even if you don't pay a cent.
Another good one is WinAce, but its the same deal. They want you to buy it, but it works forever even if you don't.
One of them, I don't recall which has a "buy me" screen that comes up of you just double click on a compressed file. There is a "continue" button that takes you into the file. That doesn't happen if you right click and say extract though.

I have used WinRAR for nigh an eternity. Its freeware. I get a small text box "please register your copy" after every time I double-click a zip file to view its contents with the program. However, if you just use windows explorer and right-click a zip/rar file to unzip it, you dont see any text box. Its fully functional and I have used it for approx 4 years. Never paid money.

Don't you just love my titles? :)
Really. People shouldn't read forums if they don't read anything more than the titles. :lmao:
edit: So if you read the content, then the title should make sense...shouldn't it?
On-topic: I doubt they are being stupid, the fact they seem to have the weakest copy protection in the world has spread the program and people who enjoy it have probably bought it or donated to an extent.

Winrar is probably your better zipper. Becuase it does zip and rar. Rar and zip are the two most common formats. Due to the bit checking. Zip will have a better chance of CRC error than Rar.
Then the other formats are tar, arj, arc, s7, ect ect

Doesn't change the fact you are an idiot. If you had of read his post (which I highly doubt) you would understand what he was asking about WinRAR.

It keeps working after the trial period is over? They must've changed it. I switched to 7-zip 64-bit a few years ago because WinRAR stopped working. 7-zip is better anyway.

Ah I guess they got a bit greedy. Now people will stop using it (when more and more switch to 64) and RAR will die out. As you said S7 is better anyway from what I've heard to.
Oh well.

Orden var valda just för att locka intresset av andra och för att skapa en milt komisk effekt.

Ja, jag har märkt det, men han verkar inte fatta att jag syftar på valen av orden till titeln och inte posten.

I've used it for years and never had a problem after the trial. Though I admit I usually used WinAce and only put WinRar on when I found a file WinAce wouldn't open. (not rar files hehe, obscure compression types)
That said, a couple years ago I stopped bothering w/ WinAce as I found more and more of those obscure file types coming up.

I've never understood the point of WinAce, and it pisses me off when I download a file that can only be opened with that program (Like once a year, which is once too often).
7-Zip can extract everything, except crappy proprietary file types like .Ace.

I use 7-zip for 7z files, but I use WinRAR for everything else. Its good combo.

As far as I know, Winrar can extract 7z files.

WinAce can open Rar files, where WinRar can't open Ace files. I don't even remember what I needed to open ace files, but about 8 maybe more years ago I needed to be able to open them. Since WinAce opened rar files I never bothered getting WinRar for years and years. It was only about 4 years back that I started finding files WinAce couldn't open (rarely). So I started installing both. I haven't needed to open an ace file for so long that I eventually stopped using WinAce all together.
I think I ran across a 7z file once or twice. I could be wrong but i think I'd extracted it w/ either WinRar, or WinAce. Though I may have had to go find another program, its been a while hehe.

I have WinRar installed at home, have a NOD antivirus, and everything is fine. But when I have installed WinRar at work (where we've got F-secure antivirus) it reported, that there is a spyware inside WinRar and quarantined its installation setup. I deleted the shit, because I have forbidden all installations of any unauthorized software. I don't know what to think about it, but this was odd.

hmm. Yeah. . . That really sounds interesting.
I'll do an online scan with F-secure if possible and see what I find.
