I was hoping there would be the ability to apply poisons to weapons or even in food. Like if a town's local tavern had its food and drink poisoned and then was raided shortly after while the guards and/or players may be affected by the poison, such as slower movement etc.

Ya the possibilities seem endless if we are able to poison consumables. Especially if there are a variety of poisons with diverse effects.
A slow movement/reaction poison
A mind numbing poison to hinder spell casting
A poison that lowers all stats
A poison that made hallucinations would be cool or if it somehow confused the victim.
Even deadly poisons that kill based on a timer if no antidote is administered.
You could kill a Clan's mounts or make them unfit to ride lol. But in all fairness i think there would need to be some way to detect a poison though. maybe some skill or magic spell, to avoid half the population of Darkfall from being poisoned on a daily basis.

I said that poison is being implemented, not poisoned consumables. The fact is that we have no clue has to how extensive poisons will be. I do know that they will be in traps if traps are indeed in. I believe that we can safely assume that you will be able to poison via weapons. Anything else is pure speculation, due to the facts that we do not have the specifics (something that I personally think is a good thing).
Edit: @ Veratou: I think that most of what you are describing will fall under the disease category instead of the poison category.

This brings back memories of UO. How ironic the poor fellow was at the Britainia graveyard when he died from a poison apple I gave him. At least they didn't have to carry him far.

I personally like the idea of it being a craft since it opens the possibility of rare poisons to be made, perhaps from extracting ingredients/poisons from rare monsters or plants in very remote locations.

Yeah, one of the things I loved in actual UO, specially since one of the last expansions, was the introduction of exotic types of poison that almost NOBODY knew about, because:
1- they were fairly new and with strange and no documented effects
2- ppl that had poisoner chars were so used to using lethal poison that they didnt care to investigate
3- they used somewhat strange material that most ppl regarded as useless and threw away
4- They required recipes that were extremely difficult to get sometimes
So I was one of the very few ppl that actually used them
In Darkfall, only the lesser poisons should be available in NPC shops, while the most powerful/exotic should be only available for crafters.
It would be cool also, if there were some secret recipes, that you have to find by trial and failure by mixing various ingredients

be nice to see some poison use by casters. for example : shadowbolt with some poison after efect :) why onli on weapons ? magick could be pretty toxic to ;)

I'm also hoping for poisons in many forms. I'm specifically hoping that alchemists can label their containers themselves, so if someone kills me and takes my potions, there's a fair chance that one of my poisons will kill them (or at least make them ill enough that they get killed in their next fight).

So if food heals? ill be sure to have a nice poisoned cake in my bag for the ppl that kill me. One last gift hopeing they would rather use that to heal then waste a pot or spell. :p

I want poison, but only in people's weapons and arrows.
Magic has enough effects - You should be happy with setting people on fire!
Poisoning mounts and food is ridiculous. Everyone would be going around poisoned all the time. Smart-asses would poison a whole town which, although it sounds cool, isn't.
One way or another, I'm going to master the 'poison antidote' skill/spell/craft.

I cant agree enough with the idea that there has to be some type of skill or available anti-poison item, there would be genocide otherwise.

Poison's on weapons? Reminds me of the good old SWG days, weapons with DOT's (Damage after time). Mind disease, memory's! :)
