Edit: btw, is this the 'Southern Hospitality' which some people talk about?

I think to qualify for that you shouldn't do something to intentionally try to piss off your hosts.

I could probably drive through Germany with swastikas on my car calling the holocaust a lie and get tons of post-modern hippies doing the same thing :P

Thing is Germany has banned such views. Have the U.S. banned views that says "Nascar sucks" or "Hillary For President"? The U.S. is, or at least it was supposed to be, a place where you could share your views, beliefs and such without getting put to jail, being beaten down or even murdered.

But then again the video probably doesn't show how all in the U.S. south are...... Right? :ohno:

Like having a government ban makes any difference.

This may be true, but while being opposed to the Nazi system is generally quite a widely considered good idea to have, homophobia is not, and it is scary how badly the people in that station reacted to those messages.

So insulting your hosts is ok, as long as you "think properly" about certain subjects.

No, I was just responding to Surly's post that this was no biggy because insulting your hosts anywhere will produce the same result. It is never a good idea to actively try to insult people (unless you are trying to make funny television of course), it is just that I find the views shown here worrying because it shows strong support for views I am strongly opposed to.

In the Germany example, in my opinion it should still be legal, and I'm sure the reaction would be similar, but I wouldn't be worried by the fact that people were holding anti-Nazi views, and neither would most other people.

It's kind of understandable for Germany to ban the swastika/Nazi views. It's seen as a symbol of racism, war, and genocide in Germany's past.

I'd find it just as understandable if the USA banned the flag of the Confederacy because it symbolised racism and slavery. ohhh yes I went there.

Also, fuck all of you fucking fuckers. (That's called a pre-emptive strike, kids!)

My take on it. IMO they cannot call themselves a real Democracy due to all censorship and such.

I'm with you on censorship, but it's going a bit far to accuse them of not being a real democracy, I think that's about the only thing they censor, they do not censor anti-government messages and the government are elected by the people. If the people wanted the censor lifted they could do this using their voting power, that makes the country a real democracy in my book.

It's not a real democracy IMO since they ban parties that is considered racist and/or anti-democratic and thus only allow parties that is politically correct and democratic.
But sure, you have a point on the fact that the people could use their voting power to change the situation.

In the US you can share your views, beliefs and such without getting put in jail. It does not mean that someone won't beat or kill you for having different views. Just like the most of the rest of the world, most people in America look down on people with views different than their own. It is just not illegal to have those different views here.

I don't, if people would look up some history they wouldn't either. Our current flag is almost the same as the flag that Georgia had historically before the 1950's when the confederate flag was on there.

Actually, I find homophobia and naziphobia to be exactly the same thing fundamentally. Close-mindedness. And it is neither good nor bad, it's just the product of stereotypes we reinforce.
