This superb piece of investigative journalism smashes it's way through to the dark side of online gaming, exposing the pitfalls of this dangerous hobby.

A work of genius. In those 11 minutes, I experienced disgust, rage, despair, and laughter.
...at the journalist and that ignorant, self-righteous cow!
There are at least several hilarious/infuriating points in the video - I'll leave them for you to discuss.
I could go to great lengths describing how little I think of the type of people in this video, and how much I love to laugh at their closed-mindedness. But I won't.
TLDR: MMORPG addict commits suicide; His mother blames game; Reporter thinks she's important.

too bad his mom didn't realize that her bad parenting ultimately led to his psychological problems.

That stuff happens a lot.
I remember a story where two kids tortured their friend for 14 hours to make him give up his Runescape (lol) password and steal all his gold and stuff.
But it annoys me when the media blames games for these things instead of the psychological state of these people.

Pretty much sums up my feelings exactly, most of this stuff is done by irresponsible and idiotic parents who can't even get their own children to respect them, what the journalist doesn't tell you is the Everquest player who was suffering from depresssion had been given a shotgun by his mother for his Birthday and he was also on meds, so in reality it's the moronic mothers' fault that he died in the first place because she gave him the means to kill himself.
Quite frankly there IS one good side to grindfest MMORPGs, it's another way of weeding out the stupid and ignorant, in most of these recorded cases kids ended up dying not because of the game but because they were psychologically unstable and the game managed to influence them in some way.
The problem is this can be applied to ALL media though not just games.

Mass media and their stupid narrowminded journalists tends to overreact and exagerate over any kind of "underground hobby". A couple of years ago here in Brazil, pen&paper RPG were being held responsible of inciting a homicide in between a group of players. After months of intense criticism and harsh acusations, the murderer confessed the RPG stuff he stated was just a to mislead police investigations.
Now I ask, why media doesn't like to pledge mea culpa when they're wrong? Figures...

I gotta tell you I've actually stopped watching t.v completely now just because the bullshit they come up with is enough to drive me insane, but I look at the internet and all it is is just peoples' opinions and/or recorded fact.
If someone says something wrong they'll be told they're wrong and if the person in question has any kind of credibility behind them they'll link a source to back up their comments. This is what I love about the internet, it's a truly free media but in conventinal media you cannot argue, you cannot correct and you certainly cannot even comment on what they say, you have to either accept it as fact or go through the irritating process of trying to pressure the government or company to correct their mistakes.
Internet is the one and truly free media, protect it at all costs.

Well, it's pretty apparent to me that these MMO gamers need a tax cut.

I hate how journalists try to stir up some sensation all the time, without making some basic research. It's not like 3-4 hours of MMO playing will hurt you more than 3-4 hours of being fed shit from TV.

Everquest was actually a reasonably fun PvE game back in the day, didn't touch it after scars of velious though.

i remember hearing that a WoW player was playing for so long that he lost his grip to reality and jumped out his window thinking he will be able to walk back to his corpse and be ressurected.
it's rly sad that some people play this much to escape their problems.
good thing they came up with parental controls, preventing these things to happen is hard i guess, giving a limited amount of playing hours a week would result in a ton of hate mails i guess. Also if more than 1 person is using the account while the other isn't wouldn't be fare then.
ye.....i'm happy i don't get addicted anymore

People will always try to blame other things for problems that come from other sources. That is the nature of today's society.
