Human nature is competitive by design. We really enjoy fighting other people, and since permadeath is the biggest design flaw in real life, we invented sports so we could re-spawn and fight the same people over and over again.

It's good to know they keep emphasing the fact that no part of the game (other than fun ) is being weighted more than the other. Keep the news coming on that quest and crafting system, you're getting me pumped up.

Gotta keep the hype low untill we get that new site ;)

No point sending too many people to a site that only has three of the races on it.

I thought the questions were good. Sure, they weren't Darkfall fanboi questions like what gets asked on IRC, but that is only natural. As for the number of questions, well it's not like they got Claus locked up in an interrogation room or something, you know? Then can only get as much info as he is willing to give. Don't be a hater.

to me this interview was worth more then all previous ones combined... Just from the UO question.

DF picks up the long dead torch that UO first carried, and brings it into the next generation of mmorpgs... I cant wait :).

I am clueless how anybody other as an old time UO player like ferox or a total DF newbie can say this was a good read or an intresting interview.

It was interesting to me because it's a huge shift in thinking. If you read just about any other dev interview on the planet you'll get one of two canned responses about pvp/permadeath/and the MMORPG genre in general. Either they'll say, "well our game doesn't have permadeath because we focus on more of an advancement model - hey listen to how exciting instancing is! We really feel like our game is 'next-gen' because our rats give you 20% more phat loot than the others." Or they'll say, "we think permadeath is the only way to go, we're so surprised that no one's tried it before! Who wouldn't want to kill rats all day so they can level up, only to be perma killed and lose it all in the blink of an eye?"

Claus is really the first (professional) person I've heard compare pvp to sports too. Showing that Darkfall is actually intended to work inside of a competitive model. And while that may not be as good as seeing new screen shots, and may not be as exciting as learning when the DF open beta starts, in my opinion it's better than hearing more of the same tired BS we've been hearing from other development teams that are clueless about how to advance the genre.

Still, I'd really like to see that new site. I'd really like to know when beta will start. I'd really like to see more than a half page interview. :)

I ment it as.

You could have known those answers from other posts on the boards / interviews / irc etc. etc. etc.

Nothing new for somebody who keeps an eye out weekly or more often.

I think the concepts that clause put forth are excellent and will lead to what could be an extremely immersive gaming experience. so much so that i believe one could find themsleves spending alot of time at it :+).

The PVP player group will flock to DarkFall. the only question is when. I am very anxious to see the model implemented and if I never get a chance to beta it I sure hope to read about beta or Alpha versions being tested by the media a key people in the public. prior to a beta release. My fear is that the game will not get enough traction soon enough and blizzard Ent (who in my view has already taken concepts from this game for wow3) amoung others will essentialy steal Claus great ideas.

Keep up the good work all I hope to see more news on a beta schedule soon

:D

nice. time will tell if DF will be the next UO but Claus made it plain, there are more to DF than the old UO (dread lord days).

PVP is definitely the sticky part for any game released so far, even the ones that make it their focus. I keep saying that I prefer Fantasy games but that my current favorite game is Star Wars Galaxies. Now I know why. SWG lets you choose (more or less) where and when you will engage in PVP, and it makes it seem worthwhile.

However, SWG still has one problem that I hope will be addressed in Darkfall, ToA or any of the newer games I am looking at now. You can be blown away in one or two shots before you can even mount an effective counterattack, even if you see it coming. That stinks, it may be fun for the killer, but not the victim. I think PvP should be enjoyable for both parties, and what I am getting at here is that one hit kills have to be either out or rare or hard to pull off. PvP battles should be more drawn out if they are to the death so that both participants can feel like they could have run if they wanted or lost due to poor tactics rather than not being twitchy enough.

I realize this is kind of wordy, but it's the product of experience of many many games. I hope Darfall does further the genre.

Cheers,
Jamiro

I just read the post. Sign me up! Many of family play these crazy games and we have had to spend hours talking about what the perfect pvp game would be because no one would actually produce it. I think you guys have get the right formula.

Everything the devs have said/promised looks good. Of cource, the jaded part of me remembers the same thing about sb pre-beta hehe. Id rather wait a year and get all this goodness then be playing another half finished game in 6 ;)

I think it's a good interview because there are people who would be reading it that don't keep an eye on the boards everyday. I didn't learn anything new from it, myself, except that it reinforced what the dev's have been saying all along.

However, if I was reading through the articles on RPGvault (Never having heard of Darkfall) and came across that interview, it would certainly catch my interest and have me thinking, "This guy knows what he's talking about, I think I'll give this game a try."

I'll add in my kudos with everyone else.
