I don't know which is worse, the fact that Hollywood makes jokes about economic failure or the fact that people laughed at it.

It is a great time to invest if it gives large dividend and wont go bankrupt. Stock price is artificially low because people are forced to sell, not because every company is going bust.

"Hollywood"... umm SNL is shot, and produced in New York, but I get what you are saying... I just disagree with your viewpoint, about the comedic value of exemplified learning.

Meaning, more people might actually get the point that this major failure of our regulatory, legislative and political governance needs a serious remedy, not just a $700b patch. It is actually so serious that jumping out of your office window (while wholly dramatic, yet something that actually happened during the initial beginning of the "Great Depression"), all be it dramatized in a humorous manner, might make viewers laugh and also consider how serious the situation potentially is.
