View Full Version : You HAVEN'T Seen <Movie Title>???!!

Now we're all familiar with the phrase in the thread's title, where your friends find out you haven't seen what they consider a classic/epic film. The response is always surprise with a hint of contempt...

"Why the FUCK haven't you seen Blah Blah with What's His Face by That Director Guy?"

So I got really incredibly bored one day and started making a list of every movie I've ever seen in my lifetime on IMDB. Quite a number, I must say, but I'm sure there are people who could beat it. I also know for a fact that I'm missing a few, but I did my best it's not as easy as it may seem.

Lately I've run out of ideas for things to watch, but this is not what I want to focus on. Forget about making suggestions for me, just think of movies that you believe are must-see titles... are they on the list? Why should they be on it? I can't stress enough that this is not about what I like, but why you like a certain film.

Or feel free to rip on me for seeing movies like Battlefield Earth or the kid's movies I saw... as a kid.

And the reason why there's no porn on it is simple. Technically I've never seen a porn movie all the way through so I can't say I've seen it.

So which movies would make you say...
"Oh my god, you are a complete loser and I will shit in your eyes for not watching <Movie>"

By the time you read this The Boondock Saints will be on the list.

Outside is overrated. We all know this.

Overrated? That's barely the tip of the iceberg! It's a conspiracy, a conspiracy I tell you. The biased media have managed to pass off this "Outside" as an award winner, but in truth? It's a terrible piece of trash! The dialogue is mind numbingly boring and repetitive, and just for a change in scenery you have to watch it for hours!

So the way you experience outside is by watching a movie where they go outside? In that case I've gone outside at least 1000 times.

Those are some 4 star+ movies I've seen. I don't know what you like and don't like, so I've included them without judgment. Those with stars are must see, imo. Well, the whole list is, but you know...

1. Following*

Chris Nolan (Batman Begins, Dark Knight, Memento, The Prestige) is one of my favorite Director and Screenwritter. Following is his first full length movie and it's pretty good. If you liked Memento, it's a must see.

2. The Last king of Scotland*

My favorite movie of 2007 and one of my favorite ever. You gotta see this, it's sick.

3. Once

Cheezy musical. If you don't like the music, you might not enjoy it. If you got a girlfriend that likes cheezy movie, this one is pretty good. It's not the classic musical movie where they suddenly burst into dance and songs. It's a very realistic love story and the music is actually songs, not bullshit musical movie crap. I hate musicals and I hate chick flick, but this one is good.

4. Into The Wild*

Crazy true story. One of my favorite movies ever.

5. Saw III

You saw (bah...) the first 2... didn't like them? 3rd one is actually as good as the others.

6. Bobby

Assassination of Bob Kennedy. I really liked it.

7. This is England

Indie film about skinheads and in 80's. Sound track is sweet. Movie is dope, too.

8. Primer

Well, this one is an incredibly good movie, but it's hard as fuck to understand. Seriously, you gotta be REALLY attentive and actually smart I think to know what the fuck's going on. But even if you understand just half of it, it's great! One thing is sure: you've seen nothing like this before.

9. Half Nelson

Indie flick with Ryan Gosling. I really like him and that might just be his best performance ever.

10. Running with scissors

Weird ass story of a guy that lives a weird ass life in a weird ass family. Not much action and hollywood stuff, but if you like greatly written, played and directed movies, this is a good one.

11. Chasing Amy

An indie classic by Kevin Smith. If you enjoyed Clerks, you'll most likely enjoy this one. It's not as good, in my opinion, but still good. Definitely not as good as Jay and Bob strikes back.

12. Pi

Fucked up movie in the alley of "Primer".

13. Thank you for smoking

Hillarious

14. Requiem for a dream*

Same guys that did Pi. More watchable for the general audiences, though. Great, great movie about drugs.

15. Oldboy*

Asian classic.

16. Lords of Dogtown

Skateboard movie based on a real story. Pretty good story, in fact.

17. 24 hour party people

Title says it all.

18. Hotel Rwanda*

Very good. Very depressing. Watch in a good mood. It's about the genocide in Rwanda... One of the best performances I've ever seen from Don Cheadle.

19. Infernal affairs*

Asian classic. The Departed is a remake of that movie.

20. City of God*

Some gettho from I don't remember where. Sick movie about kids trying to live in a shithole.

21. Motorcycle Diaries

Based on Che Guevara's journals. Pretty awesome.

22. Y tu mama tambien

Spanish or mexican movie (can't remember). 2 friends who fall in love with the same girl on a trip. It seriously seem fuckin' boring, but it's amazing. Might seem a bit gay to some, though :)

23. The Machinist

I can't believe you haven't seen that.

24. Billy Eliot

Young boy learns to dance ballet against his dad's will. Sweet movie. Maybe watch with a girl :)

And tons of others, but I'm getting tired of this :)

Loved Memento, I will watch it.

2. The Last king of Scotland*

My favorite movie of 2007 and one of my favorite ever. You gotta see this, it's sick.

Well if I gotta... will do.

The last real musical I watched was Singin' In The Rain (think I left that out of my list) unless you count South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut.

5. Saw III

You saw (bah...) the first 2... didn't like them? 3rd one is actually as good as the others.

The first one was great but I can't say I liked the 2nd. And now that the whole gimmick of the films is out of the bag I just can't see the value in watching more.

8. Primer

Well, this one is an incredibly good movie, but it's hard as fuck to understand. Seriously, you gotta be REALLY attentive and actually smart I think to know what the fuck's going on. But even if you understand just half of it, it's great! One thing is sure: you've seen nothing like this before.

I gotta watch this out of pure curiosity.

15. Oldboy*

Asian classic.

I believe I've heard of this, but a friend told me the whole friggin story :bang: I wonder if it would still be good.

18. Hotel Rwanda*

Very good. Very depressing. Watch in a good mood. It's about the genocide in Rwanda... One of the best performances I've ever seen from Don Cheadle.

Oops, another I forgot to add to the list. Great movie.

23. The Machinist

I can't believe you haven't seen that.

No one else ever mentioned it before, but now I know it's a must-see.

So you've spent over 2000 hours watching movies? That's almost 3 continuous months. Are you proud of yourself? That's probably less time than I've spent playing MMORPGs, and I had a /played of over 2 weeks on one character back in my WoW days (and I was an alt addict to boot).

You may not like the look of them from the cover or the synopsis, but you need - you need to see some Miyazaki movies.

It's for your own good. Even if you weren't under the threat of eye-shitting, it'd still be for your own good. Advice: Stay away from the dubbed versions. Sub > Dub.

Agreed, I always go for the subbed version. And I have seen Princess Mononoke, it's listed under its Japanese name, Mononoke-hime.

Some unmissable classics:

First and foremost, Lawrence of Arabia (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0056172/) - incredible, incredible epic. It's visuals and pure "epicness" still hold up to modern films like LOTR.

Another David Lean film - Bridge over the River Kwai (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0050212/)

Also, Kubrick's Spartacus (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0054331/). Kind of a precursor to "Gladiator".

Speaking of Kubrick, HOLY BREAK-DANCING MOTHER OF JESUS WHY THE HELL IS "DR. STRANGEGLOVE (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0057012/)" NOT ON YOUR LIST??? GET IT! WATCH IT! DO IT NOW!

I guess it depends partly on how old you are, which I just learned is 22 from your profile. That means you've spent 1/88 of your life watching movies. Reducing that to just the time you've spent awake, that's approximately 3/176 of your life. That's 1.7% of your conscious life, consumed by movies alone. This is including eating, drinking, working, playing, learning, talking, etc. That's quite a bit, frankly. Though my previous description made you seem a lot weirder than you were, so I retract that.

Maybe comtempt wasn't the right word. What I mean is that they are so surprised you haven't seen a certain movie that they feel sorry for you, but let's face it, it's nearly impossible to have seen every movie that people consider classics. I just find it funny how that's the reaction you get out of everyone, and if you read some of the posts they have that same reaction.
