It's been officially announced or something, and I'm terribly frightened.

They said something about removing the shadow stealth element and replacing it with a cover system, and get this:

They are replacing normal health with health regen.

I HATE the way every game that releases now has to have health regen.

Fucking consoles are to blame.

Fuuuuuck!!!

Also, Deus Ex is one of the top 5 games of all time.

Discuss.

Deus Ex 2 saved itself by allowing you to shoot up a school in any manner you wished. If only Jack Thompson had found out before his mad reign ended...

He was talking about the massive failure that Deus Ex 2 was. Considering it was a minor improvement at best, it was destined to fail. Hopefully they don't fuck up this next one like they did with the first two.

1: How do you consider Deus Ex 1 a fuck up?

2: And how do you consider Deus Ex 2 better?

From one follows 3: how do you consider yourself a gamer?

What the hell is this shit!!!!!

While I don't mind health regen as an "augmentation" (Mind you the original had it as one.) This cover system "me too" thing is kinda irritating me in that they are like the 42nd game to hype that to death. The reason behind this is that while I don't mind direct confrontations in the original. The stealth mechanics and such were able to add a layer of depth to the gameplay.

I would like a return to form for the series if anything akin to the originals emphasis on player choice outside of routes and such (Which Invisible War focused on just the progression nature of the deal.) that gave a good balance to the RPG/FPS elements involved. Though if they hand me a GEP gun I may be okay.

yeah wtf is the popularity with health regen. It has always been one of those things that I've tolerated because I realize people don't want to sit around and do nothing, but

.....when you get shot, gangrene doesn't heal you.

As a game feature to make things "more fun". It allows players to play in a total gung ho fashion,..all they have to do is not die and the next bout that comes around you can fight like spray and pray bullet sponge again. Instead of playing conservatively, trying not to get hurt at all.

It takes a lot of the adrenaline rush/fear/fun out of the game.

Never played deus ex, always wanted to though.

And yes health regen is a big ewww.

The OP never insulted the series, he insulted what he thought the new game would be like.

That's the thing with the original, there are so many ways to play through it. The skill and augmentation progression was perfectly done. There isn't a single skill except perhaps environmental training that is useless, and each problem always had multiple ways around, multiple as in at least 3. Man, I might have to reinstall it now. I've never played it as a heavy weapons kind of guy.

Or it just means that the person is very outspoken about their opinions, wants their +1's, and happens to dislike the game.

Anyways, what is regeneration? Where your health comes back? How is that a feature?

I liked Halo's regeneration system, at least the first one's, and it works well for some games, namely FPS's. But RPG's with FPS-style health? What?

That may be; I was just wondering why you were attracted to comment in a thread about the up-coming release of the third installment in a series, that you (so far) have found to be utter crap..

As for regen; I wouldn't want it as a "freebie" in any game, but apparently someone over at Eidos does.

This, however, I am more annoyed with:

[..] this time around combat won't be influenced by stats, but will rely purely on your personal marksmanship skills.

And this:

Augmentations have been bumped up and sound fantastic. 20 have been promised for the final game, ranging from 'bungee jump' tentacles that shoot from your back and anchor to a wall when you jump off a building, and the ability to punch through walls to grab enemies in neighbouring rooms.

Don't get me wrong; more and better augmentations are likely to be fun as such, but it seems sort of "Force Unleashed"-ish to me. That is; if this is a prequel, then how does it make sense to have better and more augmentations than in the two other games? It may be a small thing, but it annoys me, none the less.

Hmm... Health regen is nice for normal action games, since they're all linear and you just want to go on with the plot anyway, but I've never heard of it for an RPG-FPS before.

Maybe this means Deus Ex 3 will be more action-oriented.

The only redeeming feature of Deus Ex is that you can waste people's time by mentioning it. Every time Deus Ex is mentioned, somebody will reinstall it and waste more of their time. So I wouldn't buy it, personally.

It's basically like System Shock 2 but with another setting and an awesome storyline, as well as more interaction with NPCs.

Fixt but it remains wrong : it'll be worse than Deus Ex 2, which was already a stinking pile of shit compared to Deus Ex.
Too bad they try to make games for PC and consoles. The 2 platforms aren't for the same public, either you design a baby game for the console, or you design a good game for PC.

I don't have a problem with health regen in a videogame. The games that have it usually revolve needing it anyway to have fun,so it's not an issue. Hasn't exactly dented COD4 or Gears from being good games.

Could you imagine the standard health system in COD 'grenade spam from American quarterback bad guys with pinpoint accuracy' 4?

Other than that I've never played a Deus Ex game beyond renting the first once and not getting very far enough to care much about it. I did rate the general atmosphere and open-ended mission structure though.

I'm going ahead and guess he meant the first CoD, seeing as there was no four behind it.

Wow, what a kick in the nuts.

Deus Ex 1 is the reason i didnt ace my baccaleureate back in the day, was that addicted.

DE 2 was "meh", definitely a step down from 1, story was still ok tho.

Health regen, fuck that, fuck it.

Ill try it, maybe they make it innovative, i dont want to feel like playing call of duty.

health regen? to me thats just plain stupid for deus ex 3 expecially as there is no real reason for it.
I liked he sense of danger brought ut by having low health on your torso and losing your lgs by accident from a bagly placed lam was a big blow to any plan health regen would destroy some tactics.

Also i enjoy the flame thrower...

What's more, stealth will now rely on a cover system rather than shadows, and damage will be dealt with by a very Call of Duty-style auto-heal.

That just means they're not having stealth in, they just ripped off the combat system from Call of Duty and I'm guessing if they're using a 'cover' system it'll be either shit like call of duty as well where you can just crouch or go prone or it will be something like gears of war.

Honestly it fucking amazes me the legnths that games companies will go to lie out of their teeth in order to sell their products or prevent a certain fanbase from ripping them apart.

Deus ex has been killed off as well now... R.I.P Pre-Cu SWG, Ultima Online, Command and Conquer, Startopia, Dungeon Keeper, Starcraft, Neverwinter Nights, Baldurs Gate, Final Fantasy... Did I miss anymore? All these games have been blown apart or forgotten because games companies are trying to cater to an imaginary player base.

actualy neverwinter nights still has a large (and genurally content) population of players (myeslf included) and i belive starcraft is popular in korea.

However i dont see the point of a health regen system whats the point of medi packs and healing chocolate bars when you duck behind a barrel and your "invisible sheilds" regenerate? last i checked deus ex isnt halo in any way.

How many GOTY awarded games (since the golden days of stuff like BG and HOMM) have had their sequels recieve the same honors? Besides pure FPSes like HL2 and that dumbed down console crap Oblivion, even though I played it and enjoyed it.

Not very fucking many.
