Ok so I am really fucking bored...like most of you.
I have been looking for a game to tide me over but I just cannot seem to find anything that fits the bill.
Here's what I am looking for...
I want the economy/building of Stronghold (the original) mixed with RTS style combat. Would like a world map overview like MEII, moving units, taking territories. I just want a game with some fucking depth...fantasy/space/whatever I don't care.
Any suggestions?

Don't know any games that fit that description, so I'll suggest Combat Mission Campaigns (http://www.battlefront.com/products/cmc/index.html) instead. Doesn't have any city building and probably no resource gathering, but looks very detailed when it comes to logistics, morale and communications. Your troops actually use time to report spotted enemies in the operational part, and it takes time for your orders to get through. If you are lucky, there is radio communication, if not, people have to run back and forth with messages. Stuff like that.
Bad news; the game is not out. Good news; the tactical part is actually another game, which is available on the market, and IMO the best tactics game ever.

You missed the main point of resource gathering and city building...

Waiting for a second game is really not the time killer I was looking for while I wait for darkfall but thanks anyway.

Dwarf Fortress (http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/), doesn't have territory control (Yet), or a world map while you play (Generates a new world when you first play, and until you make a new one you use the same world over and over).
But it does have a lot of depth, and by a lot of depth I mean a fucking ton of depth.

Wow...um looks interesting but I think I am going to be selfish and ask for graphics...at least 64 bit.

I am kinda hoping someone comes up with something in this thread, I need a full on RTS with a building map, with all the politics etc.

Halo Wars.
And Skyborn, Dwarf Fortress's ASCII graphics can kick your shitty 64-bit ass.

Dominion 3 would be a good one to try as well. Light on graphics but very deep game.
Europa Universalis if you can get over the learning curve is supposed to be good.

I can agree there. HOMM3 + 1.10 = best AI of entire series.

AI was nonexistent in HOMM4 - you should check out 5 though it's pretty good and better than 4.
HOMM3 pre armageddons blade with 1.10 patch = win.

Stronghold had such a unique economic system that I think it would be pretty much impossible to find it in another game.

That game really screwed me...the depth in resources and awesome building have really never been topped...
HOMM doesn't have building btw...clicking on a building and pressing "upgrade" doesn't really count.
It would be like having a "kill player" button in DF.

The Settlers has an economic system similar to Strongholds, if not its even more in depth.

Might want to check out the game Hinterland (http://www.tiltedmill.com/hinterland/), from Tilted Mill Software. That might have the things you're looking for.

You could make one, if you tried.

Heathen! That's the worst of the series. I bet you liked MM9 as well?
