I used to run

ASUS P5N-E SLI LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 650i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard

Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 Allendale 1.8GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor Model BX80557E4300 - Retail

2 gigs worth of: CORSAIR XMS2 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X1024A-6400 - Retail

I ran that on vista 64bit and not i'm trying to run with a Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale 3.16GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor Model BX80570E8500

G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-6400CL4D-4GBPK Plus 1 Gig of the Corsair RAM

Right now I am running with the old processor, the new ram and 1 gig of the old ram in safe mode.

When I got these new parts, the first thing I tried to do was install the processor. I put it in correctly and started up the machine, but all I got was a blank screen, nothing at all. no video output detected. So I put the old processor back in and searched for a way to try and fix this. I got the asus bios tool that updates the bios, but that thing caused so many problems and fixed nothing when I updated to the latest version of the bios. now I can't even go into the normal windows vista mode without crashing 10 seconds into seeing my desktop. I have the ram I want in, so I'm assuming that isn't the problem, although I have seen a thread on some random tech forum where they talk about adjusting power to the Ram. I am really at my wits end, and I hope that there is some god amoung men on this forum who can help me out with this problem, my "its similar to legos" computer knowledge is simply not cutting it, I need a master to help me please.

My guess would be that the bus speed in your bios is wrong. Take out the battery to reset your bios, install the new processor, reinstall battery, and go.

bus speed for E4300 is 800
bus speed for E8500 is 1333

i think that your motherboards settings for the processor are adjusted to the old processor

I think I understand what you guys are saying. Remove the big watch battery looking thing, put new processor in then put big watch battery back in?

Also, to activate duel channel for the Ram, do I put the sticks in the same color slot or in the different color slot right next to it? I have a 2GB stick in the yellow one and then another 2GB stick in the brown one next to it. Is this the correct way?

EDIT: I just scored really low on my RAM test for the windows vista aero test, something is up.

RAM should be in color coded slots if I am not mistaken.

dual channel ram is color coded, an example would be there are two black slots and two blue slots, you put both ram in the blue slots. and yea remove that battery and it will clear the CMOS or whatever its called

my advice is to hammer it till it works again and since it does, hammer it till it goes faster.

I got one more issue. With my Asus P5N-E SLI motherboard, I think it is having trouble going dual channel with my new G.skill 2GIG sticks. I tried to run 5 gigs, 2 of the new kind 2 of the old together, all I got war crashes a few seconds into hitting the OS, next I tried just the new Ram in the correct slots for dual channel, it still crashed every time shortly after meeting the OS. It seems it only works stabily at 5GIG ram if its single channel, or if I go with my old setup of 4 sticks of 512 corsair for 2gig dual channel.

I'm not sure if I understand this right but here it goes.

2gig of dual channel is as good as 4 gigs of single channel

So even if I ran at 5 gigs of single channel it would be better than it was before.

Is that correct or is dual channel not as good as I think it is? Help much appreciated.

I did dual channel put just did it in the oposite dual chanel slots and now it works fine it seems... so weird. Crashesd endlessly on anything else but I set it up with the exact same Ram in different corresponding dual channel slots and now it works fine, my computer is running the fastest it ever has.
