Abortion should be a decision made only by those it directly affects, such as the parents. Though it is indeed a living being from the point of conception (both science and religion support this), it is NOT up to the government or religion to decide whether or not that being can come into this world. It should only ever be up to the parents.

While I believe it is not only cruel, but inhumane and very unnatural, I also believe in freedom and responsibility. Women who have abortions have an obvious lack of responsibility, but that is their own issue, not ours.

It was the parents' choice to have sex (sex's main purpose is to reproduce, if it were just for pleasure we wouldn't be here right now). Once the woman gets pregnant, she should not have a say in what happens to the baby. Your rights end at the beginning of another's. And don't go on about this "babies have no rights" thing, babies have the right to live, breath and eat, as do all humans do at whatever stage of their life (be it pre or post birth) at the very least. If you deprive that, it's child neglect, no matter what stage in development the baby is in.

Of course, under some circumstances it's better to have an abortion. If the person has been raped, or could perhaps die during labor or carries a hereditary major disease like AIDS, then abortion is not a bad thing. Personally I'm only for early term abortion. If I had to define life, I'd say the fetus becomes alive when it is capable of surviving on its own. Alternatively, when it has a nervous system or brain capable of "feeling" (ie. all-or-none reactions, neurochemistry, etc).
