I love spiders. I have one holed up (cellar spider) in my bathroom, I feed it moths every once in awhile.

Couple weeks ago I was considering buying a goliath tarantula, but I've got to put more thought into whereabouts I can buy food for it.

I did something similar. I used to take a shovel and dig into an ant pile and dump into a huge glass jar. Then for a couple days I would watch them build cool tunnels, and I put some different kinda insects into the jar, spiders, grasshoppers, bugs... and would watch them have epic battles. The ants always won cuz they zerged.

Eventually after like 4 days the ants would walk slower... and slower... and slower... until they all died. Was sad.

I made a vagueish post that makes the reader take what I say and find a hidden meaning. Also, my greatest fear is a group of small spiders hatching under my skin, next to waking up paralysed with a feeling that ghosts are eating my soul (thanks to forumfall).

You want freaky? I once had a web built on me by a spider while I was awake (I was playing a video game, don't remember what but I was intent on it and had been playing 6+ hours without any real movement). I did not notice the spider had built a web on me until he scurried onto my face. (that said isn't it 10-15 over your entire life?)

I have a little spider that absolutely goes crazy every night in my drive way making a web from the truck to the house like 15 feet wide. Crazy i know right? Anyhow every morning i go out to get to work I run into his nasty web. Ugghhh right? Well 2 days ago I walked through the web and jumped in the truck and started speeding down a near by twisty curvy road and the damm spider came with me. He actually walked right across my eyeball! i was doing like 45 down a very near mandatory 25 zone(MPH) when this happened. I guess i was lucky to have grabbed him up and tossed him before I lost any spatial concentration and flew off the road!@

Its not the big hairy or creeping spiders I dont like is the tiny little jumpers that move faster then my eye that get me going EWWEEWEEWEE!!!!!!!!!!

The big ones are just crunchy!

We had this discussion on the guild forums so here's a cut and paste of my reply there....

I don't kill spiders I see in the house or whatnot, I just scream like a little girl if they get on me. I really don't have a problem with them till they get on me. :D

I do know where my fear came from, which has helped me to confront that fear. When I was a little kid(like 5 or 6) I was at my grandmothers house helping with some yard work. I had to go under the house to turn on the hose cause the connection was under there. The way to reach it required me to crawl under on my back about half of my body length. So I get under and turn the knob to start the water, then start to crawl back out. As I'm working my way back out with my face up looking at the underside of the house, a huge banana spider dropped down onto my face...

http://images.google.com/imgres?imgu...3Doff%26sa%3DG

Well since then I haven't been able to stand the buggers on me. I really did like my pet rose hair though...

http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://farm1.static.flickr.com/82/238920595_edb0a61652.jpg%3Fv%3D0&imgrefurl=http://www.flickr.com/photos/jhatchett/238920595/in/set-72157594435343797/&h=485&w=500&sz=163&hl=en&start=24&usg=__4a_69uTxmO-mGPpPZ9NSc-YYECM=&tbnid=8atBfIdV5KbSNM:&tbnh=126&tbnw=130&prev=/images%3Fq%3Drose%2Bhair%26start%3D21%26 gbv%3D2%26ndsp%3D21%26hl%3Den%26newwindo w%3D1%26safe%3Doff%26sa%3DN

I had a big glass aquarium for it and the bottom of it was about 2 inch deep black reptile sand, a few kewl looking knickknacks ect. Really was kewl to watch it walking around in there.

As an added bonus the first time it shed I took the skin...which was intact and the size of the spider...and placed it in my roommate Brandhi's room...lmao you should have heard her scream when she came home and stumbled upon it. If you've never seen a shed it looks pretty much just like the spider and I put it in a noticable spot so she wouldn't miss it. :ohno:

I'm quite fond of spiders. I have been known to talk affectionately to them from time to time, and even try to daze (not kill) the household bluebottle flies to hurl in the webs of the orb weavers that set up shop on my back patio.

More spiders = less annoying small flying buzzing things! And this is awesome.

Also, by /tg/ decree, jumping spiders are actually pretty cute in a strange arachnid way. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Saitis.barbipes.male.waving.jpg)

Banana spiders are gruesome looking though, and I might be more inclined to fear them, if they were native to my lands.

The bigger and more meaningful they are the less they bother me, i would have no problem holding a tarantula the little spindly motherfuckers i'm not keen on, and crane flies omfg i hate those random daddy long legs bastards.

They can't even fly stright what is the fucking point of them!!!

Edit- If we ever find life on another planet, please let it not be spider like, we will be at war within seconds.

i've lived in an environment of giant spiders all my life. I live in sydney, home of the most dangerous spider in the world: the sydney funnel web spider. They actually make their home around my house. I live on 5 acres of land so its full of spiders, snakes and all that shit. The worst case scenario with the funnel webs was when my little brother picked up his shirt to put on in the morning and out flopped a nice big black funnel web right at his feet. Thats why we never leave clothes on the floor anymore.

Depends how big they are and if they've snuck up on me. I've seen wolf spiders big enough to kill rats hiding around here but if I see them before they see me it's no big deal. I've had wolf spiders larger than half dollars climbing from behind the tangle of cords behind my desk and biting my feet, that shit gets me jumping across the room pretty quickly. Harvestmen are never scary because they pretty much never bite unless you're trying to get them to bite you (FYI they aren't even very poisonous, no more than a wolf spider), but orb weavers piss me off. My back yard has trees and shrubs everywhere so it's basically one big webbed clusterfuck every summer so I have to use a big stick to knock down the webs as I move around doing yardwork. I just hate hitting the webs because they're annoying.

Funny spider story though, my friend was doing deck repair/construction with his stepdad last summer and they used a flashlight to check under the deck for rats and shit. They saw a bunch of spiders and something furry and dead but thought nothing of it as there are always a lot of bugs under a deck. Once they started pulling the rotten shit up they found a giant wolf spider trying to drag a dead kitten back into the darkness. It was actually able to move the thing but not fast enough, my friend bashed it with a crowbar.

God yes. Spiders are creatures of nightmare. I remember when I was like... 6? I saw this really old black and white movie where a giant spider the size of a fucking voltswagon beetle lived inside this lady's walls(never explained how it fit in there). I can't remember the rest of the movie but I know it ended with her in the shower screaming with the big ass spider coming to eat her. I don't know if it ate her or not, but I think she killed it. Anyway, I've been scared shitless of spider ever since. It was a pretty crappy movie, but it scared me. I mean, I was only like 6 at the time. Now, every time I see a spider I just picture myself in the shower with a big ass fucking spider coming to eat my soul.

I had to babysit a cousin's pet tarantula one time. It was fine, until I forgot to close the lid after feeding it. 4 hours later I glance over to the aquarium and notice there's no spider in it. The following 3 hours were some of the most tense in my life. I almost had to spend the night in a hotel.

I remember as a kid in elementary school, this big beautiful green garden spider crawling in the middle of the classroom. Of course, everyone were pussies and screamed and ran, including my teacher, who was a 6 foot tall bodybuilder. I just let it walk into my hands and let it get into the tree outside.

I still wish for the day a tarantula comes crawling into my house so that I could keep it as a pet so I wouldn't have to buy one.

Eh, to the guy with the brown recluse video, he's not that dumb. Necrosis is actually rare with the great majority of recluse bites. over 90% of recluse bites aren't going to be worse than a wolf spider bite.

That giant spider that looks like the alien that inserts the eggs into your bodies that they had a picture of, the TRUE camel spider, that giant beast that was the size of a soldiers shin, that might bother me a bit. Also it leaves a HUGE bite if it gets you.

For the most part though, IDK they leave webs all around my house I live in Florida. I try to maintain balance i knock down some of the webs that are more intrusive alot I leave alone becuase they are doing a job just like any other insect, dont upset the balance too much either way or you will have an ecological disaster in your yard.

Anyone who is scared of spiders, who does not live in a country where the spiders are poisonous and dangerous, is officialy, a big pansy
