In your opinion, who is the greatest rock guitarist?
Paganini

He's definitely not the most talented but my personal favorite is David Gilmour. Perfect example of how it's not how fast you play, but what you play.

Seconded. He plays very well. His tone is great. It really strikes a chord with me.

I prefer SRV to all those guys, but he is more bluesy. Guess I'll go with Jimi.

Mr. Jimmy Page.
Was never as innovative as Hendrix, but was more technically reliable and was awesome enough to break out violin bows to make some creepy-awesome sounds.

Eric Clapton's not on the list? Unbelievable. Anyway. I can't pick between him and Jimi so I'll just leave it at that.
Honorable mention: Duane Allman.
Edit: If you like Clapton, you should listen to this man. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yd60nI4sa9A)

I knew Jimi and I think that the best thing you could say about Jimi was: there was a person who shouldn't use drugs.qft

I'd go with Slash. Not for actual skill but for cool factor.
Edit: Read his book (Biography). Good stuff.

1# You missed out Vai and Marty Friedman.
2# There are too many catergories to guitar playing and showman ship to be able to define it soley under 'greatest'. My idea of greatest might be how good of a frontman they are, but yours might be how fast they can play.
Fail poll fails.
Just some examples of catergories;
- Speed playing
- Performance on stage
- Song writing prowess
- Melodious solo's
- Musical knowledge
- 'Cool' factor
- How much contributed to the music scene (dimebag darrel and the unique harmonic squeal technique he invented)
These are just a few off the top of my head. GG.

How the fuck can you make a poll about anything dealing with a guitar and NOT include Eric Clapton??????
The guy is a walking, living, breathing guitar god.
