Inspired by the "Top 10 Rock Drummers of All Time" thread I decided to put up top 15 guitarists thread too.

Sorry if your favourite is not on the list, it's just my top 15.

Poll coming soon(tm)

You better have Buckethead on there. Nubs tend to forget about him.

I voted for Jimi Hendrix only because the only other guitarists listed whom I could identify were Eddie van Halen and Slash, neither of whom are more interesting than Hendrix.

In light of that, it also occurs to me that very little of the music that I enjoy or listen to features guitars prominently. Django Reinhardt and They Might Be Giants are the only ones that I can think of that do.

Hendrix, with Page, Slash, and Van Halen all following closely behind.

EDIT: Mispelling Page in your poll ftl.

So you never heard of David Gilmour in Pink Floyd?

Best guitarplayer of all times.

In general there is no one BEST guitar player.

Jimmy Page and his epic-legendary solo of all time - Stairway to Heaven
Slash and.... (do I really have to make list of his solos? Nah you know them)
Gilmour and his slide-guitar solo from High Hopes? Love!
Hendrix - epic epic epic

Actually on this list only Joe Statriani sux (and I hate this fat fuck Yngwie, he is a retard) rest is epic.

Johnson is amazing. Dont get me wrong. But hendrix was that bit better.

And if your discussing guitarists, dont start with " LOL HIS SOLO IS EPIC IN THIS SONG" cause thats not what fucking guitar is about.

Improvisation makes a good guitarist.

And if they dont sing while playing = not even good.

I am also a Dave Gilmour fan. He is awesome. He was rated as having the best guitar tone ever according to Guitarist magazine. Link (http://www.musicradar.com/news/guitars/the-50-greatest-guitar-tones-of-all-time-136709)

Someone else whom I really enjoy, who is very underrated: Brian May. No one probably knows who he without me saying the band. Queen.

Anyway, I don't know who to vote for. Are we voting based on technical skill? I go for Steve Vai in that case, or Buckethead.

If we go for best ever, I pick Jimmy.

Ammon777
09-21-2008, 01:07 AM
I would say Buckethead. I love his stuff. And he has a darker, evil style which is always better.

Jimmy Paige came in second, for me.

Carlos Santana sucks.

Did you just SAY that?!?

Break all your Police records immediately. Better yet, I'll have Andy Summers come over and do it for you.

Anyway, OT: where's Son House? Blind Lemon Jefferson? And as someone already said, Robert Johnson?

Edit: also Nick Drake

Art makes a different impression on whoever is viewing it/listening it it is not a competition. Every musician worked with limitations of their times and surroundings, and technically speaking I could point out flaws in even Hendrix' playing, though much less than I'll ever have.

As a musician I think their is no greater gift than the influence an artist can have on your own art, I'm more of a folk rock myself, I favor Lennon McCartney for bridging the gap between classical and contemporary musicianship, Elvis receiving a special notice.

Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac is quite a brilliant finger picker as well.

I voted Jimi because he opened it up. He took it to a level so far beyond anyone in his era. I think it's safe to say he influenced more guitarists than anyone on that list.

If I had to vote for pure shreddability I might have to go with Buckethead or Vai.

Frank Zappa should have been on there too.

In terms of everything I'll need more time to think.

John "God" Petrucci

Where is he on this list?

Anyway, I'm an SRV type of guy; as such, my pick is biased. However, all these guitarists are pretty much immortals.
