My best game ever is Kotor :D

This is pretty tough.

For mmos, I have a sweet spot for Neocron.

Wait, wait, I just remembered one. Get ready to just shut down the thread.

Tribes (I was introduced to the series during Tribes 2, which many people found didn't live up to Tribes 1, which I really don't get why. I thought they both about equally well, just Trbies 2 was obviously a little bit more current. I found Tribes 3 to be extremely disappointing though.)

I'm playing BG2, and I'd have to say that it's one of the best games out there. And then there's blizzard, of course: Starcraft, Diablo 1&2, Warcraft 2&3 could all fall under such a category as the Best PC Game. Morrowind was a great game, but after 300+ hours it starts to get a bit boring. After 500+, it's lost almost all replay value.

there are so many games to mention, best game by gender would be a better question.

however i will say baldur's gate saga, just in hope that someone who hasn't played it tries it out.

there are so many classes to choose, every battle feels like it needs a different tactic, there are many companions to choose from each with his unique personality, they interact with you and with each other, has some hillarious moments and dialogues etc etc it's just great.

dragon age is supposed to be it's evolution although i don't know if they can create a game equal to BG let alone a better one.

it is my most anticipated game besides darkfall.

Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries was far better, and the original Mechwarrior was the best. Yeah sure the graphics for MW4 Mercenaries was great, but the story was very linear, it just doesn't stand up to the other ones.

I'm a sucker for isometric RPGs, so I'd have to give the award to Planescape: Torment, the Baldur's Gate series, Arcanum, Fallout, et cetera. Take your pick.

By far, my favorite games were the Total War series. Serious, kick-ass strategy with many hours spent.
Next game would probably be Oblivion, simply because I spent 200 or so hours playing it before I got bored. Morrowind might have been better, but its too old for me to go back and play it.

Me "so... what do I do now?"
him "nothing, you're dead"

heavily modded Oblivion is better, but you have to spend time downloading 50 mods to make it on par with Morrowind, and even longer to make it better. with the right mods though, you can make it like Morrowind but with physics and the ability to carry bodies around.

How is Morrowind better then Oblivion? I couldn't stand to play Morrowind for more then an hour before modding it, and then all I did was dick around for a couple of hours because the main quest was boring. I tried everything I could to make that game fun, but it just never was.

Morrowind is superior to Oblivion in nearly every aspect except graphics/voicings(fluff really)
A much more in depth cskill system(seriously how the hell is ax considered a blunt weapon) Many more varieties of weapons(spears, halberds, crossbows etc...) You're skill leveling up have a larger impact than oblivion.

axes are blunt.

scalpels are sharp.

if an axe were truly "sharp" it would loose it's edge fast and be worthless. i would get into edge dynamics, but it would be over your head.

i do agree that morrowind > oblivion, just nitpicking.

however, the best pc game ever is Baldur's gate 1.

Fallout 1 & 2, followed closely by Diablo but only because of the WHOA factor at the time. But Fallout was and still is the only game that i've ever become really interested in, that I would play it over and over and re-read the dialogue and every info box. Deus Ex deserves a mention as well. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is my shooter of choice.

Unanswerable question is unanswerable.

For me, for quality for money, game depth, replayability, moddability and player base i'd say either Garrys Mod or if you want to root it back, Half-life 2 and all subsequent mods (which include GMOD).

Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries was far better, and the original Mechwarrior was the best. Yeah sure the graphics for MW4 Mercenaries was great, but the story was very linear, it just doesn't stand up to the other ones.

Who gives a rats ass about the story... The multiplayer for Mechwarrior 4 was awesome.

Nothing like running around in a light mech takeing out assault mechs 4 times your weight.

lol, the yells of "LEGGING NOOB!!!" from dumbass popsnipers who got rid of all their leg armor still makes me smile.

A couple that spring to mind.

Fallout 2 - Miles ahead of its contemporaries when it came out.

Civilization 2 - Sheer longevity/value for money. Because it played well for me for like a decade of my childhood and was always fun!(Why has no one mentioned this one! Sid Meir is a genius)

Morrowind - One of the most immersing games I ever played.

axes are blunt.

scalpels are sharp.

if an axe were truly "sharp" it would loose it's edge fast and be worthless. i would get into edge dynamics, but it would be over your head.

i do agree that morrowind > oblivion, just nitpicking.

however, the best pc game ever is Baldur's gate 1.

Although most axes are blunted and required a blast to work like a wedge. This is not the case with war-axes. Which war extremely sharp but as you said, lost their edge quickly

I did forget about the amazingness that baldurs gate was though

well, the multiplayer community is basicly dead for MW4 now, mostly just japanese servers my comp cant connect to for some reason *crawls into corner and cries*. it used to be awesome, the community was massive. People made websites that kind of turned it into a browser based RTS where you fight in game, and had territory and mech shops and everything set up on a website (think dreamlords if you played the beta, but with mech simulator FPS instead of the medieval, usual MMO style combat). A website called Mektek came out with several patches for it that gave you probobly somewhere around 100 different mechs to chose from (they even threw battle armor and infantry in for shits and giggles) and a massive selection of weapons.

Im typeing way too much... that game used to be freaking awesome though...

nah i havent heard of the crysis mod. lol im pretty sure if my comp tried to run crysis it would melt.

By far, my favorite games were the Total War series. Serious, kick-ass strategy with many hours spent.
Next game would probably be Oblivion, simply because I spent 200 or so hours playing it before I got bored. Morrowind might have been better, but its too old for me to go back and play it.

totally. TW games (especially Medieval 2, i cant wait for Empire) and Oblivion are awesome.

M&B, though i have only played for a little while, is a lot of fun...Freelancer was great too.

WC3 is highly overrated, though the custom map/modding is a bit of fun...stupid maps wont start correctly though, i think i messed up somewhere....

SC is NOT that good. Again, highly overrated. its, at best, OK

Mousetrap.

Then again, my first computer was a 1998 HP Compaq.

Actually, I didn't start playing MMORPGs or any real computer game until I was about 13. That was Everquest at a friends house, which I eventually purchased and played for about two hours, after which I threw away. I did play Diablo though, and I think that was what started me on the gaming trail. Honestly, it's hard to pick just one. Aces High was a fun game, Blackhawk Down was great, but I'd have to say that out of all of them, it was Aces High. I liked the community they had, and the gameplay was phenominal while the graphics were still limited. It wasn't just you versus a random player, it was you versus somebody who you could see again, somebody who could possibly end up as your worst enemy, who you'd seek out in the furballs over the bases, though you'd never openly admit that you were their nemesis.

Oh, being a history geek, i'd say that Rome: Total War is another one of my favorites. I always wanted to see the outcome of what two totally different empires would be.

There is so much truth in that statement... God it's a tie between them and Chryssalids as most annoying fuckers in that game.

Still I'd pick "Deus Ex" with the Shifter Mod any day, because I've never was able to vicariously live my 'wearing shades at night' fetish till that game. Plus the Malkavian Mod is the great 'lol' mod. Yes I took, Garry's Mod into consideration thar. (Don't really use it cause' I'm too fucking lazy to create anything there unless I want to fight a crapload of Combine/Antlions/etc.)

Psh, I still stand by mine.

Descent had a unique plot, unique gameplay, and a great physics engine. The learning curve was high, but the reward for becoming a skilled player was very high.

No game's "PvP" has come anywhere close to the levels of adrenaline and skill that were required in Descent multiplayer.

And Descent's Co-Op was fantastic.

MMO:

Ultima Online T2A/UO:R - (even AoS was *interesting* for a bit until item insurance)
Shadowbane (if you have a sizable group)

TRS:

Warcraft 3: DotA map is probably the only thing I've played consistently since it was introduced that still has regular updates and keeps it's integrity and fun factor.

FPS:

Counterstrike
Call of Duty 4

Can't choose just one so I present my top 3 instead (in no specific order of course):

Homeworld (for it's awesome awesomeness, also caters to my space fetish)
Forgotten Hope (BF'42 mod, best FPS I've ever played)
EVE Online (see Homeworld)

Honourable mentions:
Deus Ex, Fallout, C&C:Red Alert, Freespace franchise, Starlancer, Settlers (1 and 2)

Dark Messiah (with the patch, of course).

Fighting with the staff in that game is one of my all time best memories of gaming.
