I personally think hes great. I loved his books as a kid (and still do) and I really enjoy his short stories.

My favorites of his would have to be:

-Fantastic Mr. Fox
and
-Beware the Dog

edit: made poll, use plz

Great, although pretty creepy for a children's literature writer.

Vaguely amusing for his strange writing style I suppose. I haven't read anything by him in a decade though.

Roald Dahl's genius was in correctly judging most children's liking for darker stories.

Ronald McDonald?

Roald Dahl (13 September 1916 – 23 November 1990) was a British novelist, short story writer and screenwriter, born in Wales of Norwegian parents, who rose to prominence in the 1940s with works for both children and adults, and became one of the world's bestselling authors.

His most popular books include The Twits, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach, Matilda, The Witches and The BFG.

Shame about the rubbish pictures in all his books. I don't know why people like Quentin Blake, they're like 'Oh! Look, his pictures are like they were drawn by a child so children can totally relate!'.. NO. THEY ARE SHIT.

While I do call his drawings childish, and not exactly frame-able or worth thousands of dollars like some artists, I wouldn't call them shit.

Goofy and fun, never really had anything against him.

A good person to make fun of, but that doesn't mean I don't like him.

There can be only one rating for any man that engaged in aerial combat with only 7 hours flight training and no special combat training and that is great.

He scored at least 5 aerial victories (more unconfirmed) and also did espionage work for intelligence services. He was also lucky, two of his air units suffered near total casualties yet he always managed to survive. He also survived a crash landing in the desert though concussed and blinded.

Even apart from his writing he had an awesome life.

He didn't only write books for kids. He wrote a bunch of short stories for adults f ex. Also he was conceived in Norway, just like Darkfall.

Meh, its only barely a necro.

I couldn't go less than 'great' because of the influence his books had on my overall reading experiences... But he's probably a bit over hyped.
