This computer is being built specifically for the release of this game so it only seems right to post the specs here.

Other than that it's a perfectly good system.

I checked with a few calculators and settled on a 420w power supply that came with a APEVIA X-Gear ATXB5KLW-BK Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case. I had to buy a couple Molex to SATA adapters to make it work though.
It could of been bigger but my load falls well below 420w.. If I need a bigger power supply I will just have to bite the bullet.

That looks pretty nice. I'm going to be getting a new computer probably around March (Cheaper parts). Similar to your computer, but with two 9800GTX's, XFX. Possibly Factory OC'd. And 4 GB RAM (PC2 8500). I'm going between that processor you have there and the Q6600. Probably will get the Q6600, it's supposed to OC easy, so I figure I can get 4 cores at 3.0 GHz at the same price of two.
I'm hoping by March that will be sub-$1000.
I agree with Ankh, though, I'd grab an extra 2 gigs of RAM. And get a better Power Supply. A surplus of power never hurt anyone, and case supplies have a tendency to suck.

I actually have a spare set of

I'm not trying to be an ass but. Rosewill is also not a top of the line psu supplier. For instance that psu you listed has 44 amps on the 12v rails. the 550 watt psu from seasonic has 68 amps.
The 12 v support almost all of the components in your computer.
Just food for thought

I dont know ASUS has let me down in the past. Its a great board realy but I picked one up a few years back with a 8 year plan. I would buy the current processor and when the next one comes out , drops in price id pick that one up to save a bunch of dough. That next processor cost as much as my whole new system even today. My new system is 10X as good too although that possessor(2nd one) would have bought me a few years or more it never dropped in price! I was stuck with a 1.8 ghz atholon for an extra 3 years!
Other than this its a quality board!

Even if you don't use all the space on a large hard drive it will still perform better due to the higher data density (not as much physical part movement in order to access the same amount of data).
But yeah, don't skimp on the power supply and get a reliable brand. When they fail, they have a nasty tendency to take other parts of your system with them.

80GB HDD? What, do you not use your computer? Does it just sit their looking abandoned?
Anyway, as has been mentioned before, get 4GB of RAM, and install Vista 64 bit. With a machine like that, you won't run into the usual problems of "Lol my pentium 3 computer can't run Vista, it's shit". 64 bit with 4GB of RAM will allow you an extra 800MB of RAM, which completely makes up for the difference between the requirements of Vista and XP.

You should've gotten 4GB of RAM (2x2GB). Soon you'll be wanting more RAM, and adding in another 2x1GB means you'll have 4 DIMMs, which puts a lot of stress on your memory controller.
Also, I hope those OCZ Reaper modules will not conflict with your motherboard / CPU cooler like they usually do.
Also HD4850 and HD4870 > 9800GTX+.

XP 64-bit is awesome, except that GAYAPPLE purposefully does not support it with iTunes by putting an OS restriction on the installer. There are ways around it, but still.
And don't listen to that guy, never ever get 3GB. You'll want 2 RAM modules for dual-channel mode. Last time I checked there were no 1.5GB RAM modules.

And what about this situation: I got 1 GB of DDR RAM (2x 512 MB) and think about buying another 2GB (2x 1GB). It will totally give me 3GB of RAM in 4 DIMMs. What do you think?

I think 4 DIMMs stresses your memory controller too much, eliminating the ability to overclock and possibly forcing you to underclock your memory.

Because your memory controller might not handle 4 DIMMs very well. It puts twice as much stress on your MC.
What's your cpu batch, VID and minimum Vcore needed for 3.6 Ghz ?
And overclock. It's a damn Intel, it's easy and safe to clock if you don't do something stupid (like keeping Vcore on auto or trying 4.0+ Ghz directly).
About the CPU cooler, you should have bought something which use 120mm fans : less noise for better perfs.

Your talking about less then 80$ for a PSU for that rig. Any of the Antecs will do the job reliably. Its not that big of a deal. IMO you should get a new PSU now because the PSU you are going to get in that case is anything but a true 420w. You are probably going to meter it under 360.
Its a pretty nice gamer on a 22inch under at about 1680x1050 as long as you dont run vista. If you are running vista you are loosing out. With less then 4 gigs there is no point. Running vista 32 is just a waste all together. 64 is about the only viable option atm paired with 4 gigs of ram.

Honestly 2k is way to much.. Spend 1k and save the rest for upgrades down the road. Unless you are trying to pimp out your computer with liquid cooling, chrome wires, and all the unnecessary stuff..

Meh. You have a given amount that you're willing to spend and a given amount of power that you want to obtain. If the cost of getting that power is more than you're willing to spend, wait. Sure, your computer will be technically outdated, but really, who cares? I plan to buy a new computer every 4 or 5 years, assuming that innovations in technology continue at the pace that they are now. Sure, you're a little strained in that last year of use, but it really doesn't matter that much.

noob question here about the PSU, according to that card's minimun specs these are:
Minimum of a 450 Watt power supply.
(Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 26 Amp Amps.)
and the PSU you posted has 4 +12V rails @18A... my question is do they add up to make up a total of 72A (or 36A/36A in case of SLI/Crossfire)? or else how is it supposed to support the vid card that needs 26 amp current?

It's good. Like A+ good. The only drawback of PC P&C's PSU is they aren't modular (yeah I know, some people don't like modular PSU).
But when they say 610W, you have near 610W, not 340W and a PSU which fuses at 400W load.
And, IIRC, they use single +12V channel and not false multi +12V which are in fact only one.
